115K miles

Really enjoy all the info and hours of reading the post, I have one question about miles. I am looking at a 2002 41' Dutch Star cummins, spartan chassis with 115k it looks like a well cared for motor home just wondering about the miles? thanks Fred

Hello , and Welcome to iRV2.
Most RVers will say " Better used and Maintained than stored and ignored "
Are the service records available ? Are the tires OK , Good date code ?
I think that a 41' coach would have the ISC , Cummins. JMHO the ISB ; 5.9; would not be enough engine for the weight of the coach.
The engine/trans combination, should be good for at least double the current miles.
By the year of the coach , I think it will not be a Common Rail fuel system, but have the VF-44 ? pump
The only recurring complaints with this engine involve the lift and injector pumps. A plugged fuel filter or defective lift pump can kill the injector pump. $$$$.
If the coach suits your needs then the miles should not be a factor.

Thanks Skip426, I think I'll look around a little more just so many to choose from.

We just purchased a 2002 Dutch Star DP 4090 in January 2012. It had 110K when we bought it. It had all the service records, so felt pretty comfortable with it. It now has nearly 116K on it - still runs great!

Check the ball joints. Ours were a little loose. Had them replaced at B & D's in Robertsdale, AL for about $1,600. Drives like a new now. The radiator fan blades had corners broken off it - had it replaced for around $200 parts and labor. And the exhaust brake got stuck and wouldn't activate; that cost $168 to get fixed.

WE love ours. Rides and drives good. Even with these expenses, it was still cheaper than a 2003 or newer. I suggest you take it to a Cummins shop and let them pull up the recent error codes to see what has been happening wit the engine and transmission. That will give you more data to make your decision.

Not lookin' back.

Good luck and happy trails!
