17 DS Chassis Batteries Replacement

It’s time to replace my chassis batteries. What batteries should I get and is there a proper procedure that must be followed?

Thanks!

I replaced eight house batteries and all battery cables in my 2016 DS. If you do a lot of boondocking, Lifelines are very good but pricey. I used Duracell agm from Sam’s Club. $180 each. Made by East Penn in Pennsylvania. Very happy with them. When disconnecting your battery bank disconnect the positive cable first to avoid damaging the Magnum inverter/charger.

I appreciate the help but I’m talking about the 2 chassis batteries not the house batteries. Thanks!

I got my Freightliner dealer to replace for I thought was a good price. They sell lots of batteries, so they are always fresh. They have provided good service for several years, and were the exact same batteries the rig came with (which were still working fine when I replaced them)

If you have a Spartan Chassis.
Turn off both disconnects (below the batteries)
Pull fuse F10 (next to disconnects)
Remove negative battery cable
If you don't pull F10 it could damage the SCM (Spartan Chassis)

Check with your chassis manufacturer for the minimum CCA required. My '05 DS on a Spartan chassis is 950. They also recommended a national brand in the event you have an issue (for ease of return).

Sorry, should have more thoroughly read your question. I also replaced my chassis batteries. Found Freightliner to have very good prices.

I'd suggest taking a picture of the batteries before removing anything.
