1999 dutchstar coach battery cable location

I am sure this has been discussed before however I just bought a 1999 Dutch star model3858. I am not 100% sure of the battery cable locations. The house batteries have one positive cable and one negative cable but the little schematic shows two Positive cables coming off the batteries. One to the inverter and one to the isolator. Any insite into this would be helpful.

Welcome to iRV2 , and the vintage Newmar family .

Does your DS have the optional 2000 watt inverter ?

The units built with only a 400 watt inverter for the TV; like mine ; don't have the second large cable .

BTW: The two previous owners of my coach passed on all the original paperwork and manuals , any questions just ask .

Is your coach on a Freightliner or Spartan chassis ?
Important info to include when asking questions .

I know this forum has a lot of newer coaches on here with people asking questions about those coaches. With more people on here owning the newer coaches, like me, I can answer questions because I work on my own stuff. However, someone like the OP of this post comes along and needs help with items that are issues on an older coach, in this case 23 years old.

"Skip426" has really filled in the gap and has been a great asset in answering questions as he's very knowledgeable and has been working and keeping up on his coach. Cudos to Skip for being such a good resource, providing great info so every age of coach has a good base of people answering questions. He is also very even tempered and answers with no sarcasm or unneeded remarks. Something I have to work on....

Thanks Skip It’s a Freightliner chassis. Not sure on the watts but I do know it’s a 75 amp. I’ll look today to see what it says

The 75 amp unit in the power cable bay is your converter/ battery charger .

A 400 watt inverter like mine would be mounted in the compartment behind the passengers side dual wheel , and be a manual by-pass , you have to move a power cord from the inverter to an outlet when on shore power .

The original inverter was relaced by a previous owner , 600 watt in its place.

Have a look low on the wall to the drivers left , for the Freightliner build data decal , that gives the chassis production date .
Freightliner made a major wiring change on Jan , 04/1999 and many coaches registered as 99 are built on 98 chassis .
I have wiring info for both years , but knowing exact build date of the chassis will end some confusion about wiring and gauge operation in particular.
There is also a great deal of info from Newmar on the build sheet ; mine is on the back wall of a kitchen cupboard .

As you go , over, under , around and through ; your new ( to you ) coach take note of all fuse locations ( I've found 10 ) any component you find and don't understand , post a photo and we'll figure things out .

As a follow up, I take pictures of all the fuse panels in my coach and print them on 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper or photo stock and keep them in a folder in the coach, with their location. If I have an issue, I can look at them or my laptop and find the fuse I'm looking for without hunting through the coach.
