2000 DSDP Illuminated Grab Handle

I saw a picture of a grab handle that was illuminated, so I pulled mine apart and sure enough, there is a bulb assembly in there. No wires coming from the coach though. Was this a standard feature and any suggestions how to find the wires that lead to it? It doesn't "need" to be working but I like lights. Did Newmar have them light up with the step light or something else? The bulb is in the top part of the handle. Appreciate any info.

Thanks - that gives me a place to start looking for wiring. Looks like I'm going to be rolling around on the ground for a bit.

My 05 Diplomat had the clear handle, but was not designed to illuminate. I added a bulb and luckily, the passenger armrest had the porch light switch there. I tapped into it to power the handle.

The one on our 2001 is lighted and the switch in the wall shelf next to the passenger seat that turns on the outside light above the door also turns it on. Suspect the wires have been pulled back or removed by a PO.

Is that upper lock stock or aftermarket. I am looking for a non- RV deadbolt to add to the coach.

Our 2002 DSDP had a lighted handle. Don't remember if the 2000 we also ordered had it or not.

Tom.... our ‘02 DS had that same illuminated handle.
Be aware: I believe the OEM handle is acrylic, molded to the curve and engraved. Acrylic is not super strong or tough, and over time of exposure it tends to lose strength. I notice yours has a fair bit of cracking and crazing.
If yours breaks, it is replaceable, with curve and engraving, but it will likely be of acrylic and quite expensive, probably $80-$100.
When mine broke a couple of years ago I scouted up a local plastics supplier. I bought a 15 inch piece of 1” polycarbonate straight rod for about $7. When cut to length and with properly shaped ends it will fit directly into the original mounting caps, far less cost than the online product, and both stronger and more scratch resistant.

Based on this conversation I took my handle off. It also has a bulb in the top anchor. Mine is burned out. I'm replacing it with a blue LED to match the step illumination. Thanks for the information.

Ours appears to be a standard Schalge dead bolt. Looks same as one on house.
