2000 Dutch Star - no start issue
Hey guys,
I have a no start issue. Batteries are good. When you turn the key to start, nothing happens, except the dash lights / back up camera go out. It acts the same as if you try to start the engine with the slide out. I think it is possibly a problem with a safety starter interrupt....maybe for the slide? or jacks? or? Maybe bad ignition switch?
I got it started by jumping a wire from the starter post to the white wire on the starter solenoid.
Where can I find a wiring diagram for the ignition system? Anyone have ideas where to start looking? Not sure if Newmar or FL can help. Thanks.

You may find your answer in this forum not sure a wiring diagram though.
You can do a search in forum top menu to right.
You may have a ground problem or like you said a ignition problem, make sure the ground cable from battery is tight and clean to frame, plus the starter.

I had the same problem this spring. You can read the helpful suggestions I received here
Mine was a worn wire off the starter solenoid.

Thank you driedl, I'll look at that.
So far I've found a chassis wire schematic and am going to inspect / test some wires tonite. FL Help was no help. Surprisingly Newmar was less than no help. They acknowledged there probably is a sensor / safety switch for the slide out, that they would have installed, but can't tell me anything about it at all. That was only after I told them it WILL NOT START with the slide out. Crazy. This can't be that complicated.

When that happened (several times) on our 2002 DSDP Spartan/Cummins ISC I finally cured it by having the starter replaced for a little over $1,000.

It's definitely NOT the starter or starter solenoid on the engine. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to 'jump' start it.

It's kinda hard to guess from afar but IMO, if the lights go out on the dash, it is one of two things, the batteries are dead, which you say are not, Or, there is a loose (bad) connection or cable somewhere that appears as a dead battery as soon as you apply load by turning the key.

Do you have a part number for the relay ?
I know my engine will start with either the jacks down or the slide out. Don't ask how I know
