2000 Dutchstar battery setup

Helping my BiL on a new to him Dutchstar with Cat engine. Previous owner put in (2) 12V batteries but battery bay diagram shows using (4) 6V & another circuit using (2) 6V. He needs new battery's as the installed ones are toast due to not being maintained for many years. So anyone know correct battery setup & wiring ? he bought from an older lady that hadn't used it in years

I would think that the Chassis bank is 2 12V starting batts in parallel. The House bank is usually 2 6V Deep cycle batts in series (to make 12V) and 2 more 6v Deep cycle batts in series (to make 12V) and those two 12V Deep cycle groups are connected in parallel.
You can google (or Bing) pic of 12V banks

Our 2001 DSDP is probably the same. I replaced all the batteries. It takes two 12V starting batteries for the chassis and 4 6V golf cart batteries for the house.

I see you are in Texas. If near the DFW area you are welcome to look at our set up. We are near Burleson.

My battery tray was modified by a previous owner , to get the number of smaller cables and wires off the battery post and onto a power buss bar located under the battery tray away from corrosion due to the batteries off gassing .

Here are pictures of the Newmar battery placement tag , and how my batteries are hooked up .

In the second picture the red arrow is the cable to the starter the yellow arrow is the chassis battery power to the buss bar.
One ground cable from the chassis batteries goes to the frame the second to the starter. .

Third picture , red arrow , is the power cable to the coach battery buss bar . Yellow arrow ground cable .

Forth picture buss bars under the battery tray

The two diagrams , one showing four 6 volt batteries , one showing two 6 volt .
Is an either / or diagram , on coaches with only a 400 watt inverter for powering just the TV ; those coaches came from the factory with two 6 volt batteries .
Coaches with the optional 2000 watt inverter used the four battery lay out.

Good to know. I have a 2000 W inverter and have 4 house batteries.

Thanks everyone. When I 1st looked at the wiring tag thought it was possibly 2 different ways to put on the batteries ( reminded me of some golf carts I've restored ). My only Winnebago MH we had in the 90's wasn't nearly as complicated. Glad my 5er has only 2 to maintain from a $ perspective .
