2001 Mountain Aire steps

We are the proud owners of a 2001 Mountain Aire. When I returned home after a Christmas holiday on the gulf coast of Alabama and Florida, my steps did not retract fully. They operate, so I know there are electrical connections, but the steps remained out a few inches when I closed the door. Any hints?

We also have a 2001 Newmar Mountain Aire 4095, purchased last Jan...almost at the 1 year birthday/anniversary...within a week the steps would not fully retract...very cautiously looked underneath and the outside step motor bracket was being held by 1 bolt and slightly dangling...so it had shifted and the steps would not fully retract or extend...strapped it up and took to dealer..I was a little too leary to work on it at that point, was learning so much, since it is our first Motorhome...I wouldn't think twice to work on it myself now...which I actually enjoy...hope this helps...

Thanks, Mike. Helps a lot. I'll tackle it as soon as it gets over 30F here in Tennessee!

We have a 04 Dutchstar and experienced problems with the step not fully retracting. We did not have a mechanical issue and thus our solution was a product called Krown T-40....it is a rust proof lubricant. I lubricated all the moving parts and the step has never worked better. Hope this helps

Thanks, gmarsha2; with the adage, I thought lubrication might Lao be an issue.

If no mechanical issues involved, get youself a spray can of Silikroil on line (or sometimes found in metal supplier stores).

It's a penetrant with Silicone- used throught the manufracturing industry.

(make sure it is "Silikroil")
