2003 Dutchstar 4004
Have two coachs we are looking at. One we are leaning toward now, us a 40, Dutchstar. Supposed to have a Generac 7500. I'm familiar with Onan and Westerbeke (boat days), but not Generac. Are they dependable, parts/maintenance issues?? Anyone with the same unit out there that can give some advice?? Would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

Welcome to the forum.
My 03 has a Generac 5500 and has been very dependable for us we have use it to supply the house during power outages.
You will find info for all Gens here.
Here is a Brochure and Owners Guide for DSDP.
In my signature below there are three links that will relate to your Newmar.
Good luck in your quest.

Thanks 007. We are going to see the coach this morning, so your info is much appreciated. We're also looking at a 1998 CC Magna which was barn stored it's entire life when not in use, and under cover here in Fl. CC is awesome, but DW likes DS due to one more slide (1 vs2). Hopefully we can make the decision by this weekend. Waiting on oil samples. Again thanks.

Are you sure the generator is a Generac and not a Powertech?

I have a 2003 Scottsdale 3456 with the Generac. We bought used and coach had been neglected. Gen had 1500 hours. We have had a major issue each of the last 2 years. Spent about $500 each time. My Generator guy says the gen is good for many hours, but that brand has a lot of small problems. Most of our issues have been seals that are buried and take a lot of labor to repair. My guy says if it fails again he doesn't want to work on it again. He says the best bet would be to replace with a new ONAN. The gen does well though, will power everything without a burp.

Good news. When we got to see the coach, the salesman had been misinformed. The coach has a 7.5kw Onan with 690 hrs. I like diesels which have been run, but it started and ran like a champ. Carried all house loads fine. We have a refundable deposit down pending test drive Monday. As an aside they had two ladies cleaning the coach, and over the two hours we were there they really went into detail. Even pulled the heating vents off and ran special tools back in them! Pulled every drawer, stood in the shower and sanitized it. I was impressed. There supervisor checked on them twice in the time we were there. They said they normally take 2-3 days to clean a coach WOW.
