2003 Scottsdale floor rot

We have removed the carpet / tile in order to put down Allure flooring. I found a wet spot in front of the front slide, behind the driver's seat. I was able to dig out a hole the size if my hand. I can reach in and touch the lower floor and touch a metal brace on each side. The damage seems to be confined to this area. The front edge of the slide is bent from hitting the driver's seat over the years and the inside seal no longer makes contact. I also have a similar spot on the opposite wall that is damp and a few damp spots in the floor along the edge of the slide. Where is water entering? I suspect I need to recaulk the seam between the sidewalls and baggage areas. The coach sits outside in western Washington in a lot of rain. Thoughts?

I had my 02 DSDP into the factory for a rebuild after major vandalism. The driver seat had to be removed as a result of this major work. I was advised the floor under the window beside the drivers seat was spongy. Their further investigation revealed they had left out a plastic sheet during the manufacturing process that directs the water that comes in around the drivers window to weep holes in the bottom of that side panel beside the drivers seat. If the water that seeps down beside the window isn't directed to the bottom of that cavity, it can wick over to the flooring under the window and drivers seat. Don't know a cure for you but if you go a bit further and take off that side panel by the drivers seat, you will probably not find plastic behind it that should have been placed there during manufacturer. I think the source of the problem will become evident when you remove this panel. "Wicking" is the key word. Good luck.

If you have a power drivers window I suspect you have the same problem I had and many others.
The drip pan for the window failed and water is leaking inside.
See here for many pictures and the subsequent repair of the pan.

Thanks for the responses! No electric window, but I will pull the panel and see what I find..

I began to remove the plastic panel. I think there is one more screw in the front at the bottom. It seems to be covered by the carpeted plywood foot rest. The carpet was wrapped around the plywood before it was installed. I am afraid of breaking the plastic panel. I think it is hanging on a bracket at the top. I can pull it out at the bottom and see that it is dry behind it. The floor looks like there may have been a previous repair. I can find no drain under the coach. The Windows appear to have weep holes at the bottom going outside. The caulking on the outside trim ahead of the slide the slide is cracked and pulled away. The interior screws running up the wall in this area were rusty. I am leaning toward this being my problem...

Heavy rain today. I went back to removing the panel. There was not a screw in that lower front corner. I learned the upholstered panel on the plastic panel is attached with Velcro. There are 3 screws behind it. After it was off I was able to get the wall panel loose. As suggested there was no plastic sheeting. I can feel in the bottom and it does have a drip pan. It has water in it. Forward of the joint the insulation & floor is dry. I am removing the inside window trim now to see if I can remove the panel to the rear. Thanks again for the information. Sometimes it takes me a while to process..

There should be a drain hole for the drip pan for water to escape, check Spk64 link.
The slide bottom edge when out will channel water to the inside floor by following the bottom edge trim, inside behind the rubber seal near floor, sealant should be built up to deflect the water down wood so it cannot enter to coach floor.

Thanks 007. After I got the panels loose and can see in, I can tell everything forward of the joint is dry. I can also tell what I took for a drip pan is the lower aluminum extrusion for the wall structure. No drip pan.Your post makes me think the water is following the trim you speak of or the vertical seam in this area. I have ordered Dicor vertical sealant and will reseal. We are in a extremely wet period now, some flooding. I will not close this up until I get it sealed & dry. Thanks for your response.
