2005 dsdp 4010?

Hi,

Anyone out there have this specific model Motorhome. It's one of a narrow field that my wife and I are looking at very closely. Need to know the pro's and con's of that particular design.

Thanks all,
Bob

Welcome Bob to the Newmar forum and irv2.
I do not own a DP but do own a coach with two slides such as the MODEL your interested in. We have found ample room for us in kitchen area with living slide and room in bedroom area. We have a bath and 1/2 model but have owned your bath layout in a previous coach we own.

I'm sure someone will have word on the chassis for you.

I added this table cabinet for wife after she saw setup in other friends coach's, made it easier to get kitchen duty stuff for her.
One other thing you will be happy with a NEWMAR and SPARTAN chassis.

This chassis if it was like my 4024,had a low carrying capacity, being a 40 ft non tag motorhome.Because it has 2 slideouts it may weigh less, but am not sure exactly.Check out the weight and carrying capacity of the coach to be shure. We loved ours.

Thanks for all of the feed back. I have a copy of the 2005 DSDP Models brochure.
According to the specs here the 4010 has the second highest NCC of the six 40' coaches represented, and a 1216 lb. greater NCC over the 4024 - if these figure are to be believed. Sorry, but I have yet to figure out how to get these columns to align.

Best way to find out your weight is to get the coach weighted if possible. Your DP compared to my gas would carry triple my weight unless your going to really try to overload you still need to consider a tow in your weight load also.

The 2005 Dutch Star was built on a Moutain Master chassis with a 14,600 pound front axle, but Newmar rated the axle at 13,200 pounds for two reasons. 1) To not compete with the Mountain Aire. 2) They used 275/70 tires that could not support the entire axle load.

Those low profile 275/70 tires caused a rough ride because they had to be inflated to the max - 120 psi. And being low profile they had very little give when they hit bumps. Many of us complained to Newmar and Spartan about the ride quality and we got new air bags, shocks, suspension stops and 275/80 tires. After all the work my 2005 DS drives and rides like a dream.

If that 2005 DS 4010 has the original 275/70 tires you need to replace them with Michelin 275/80 XZA3 LRH tires and then your front axle will be rated 14,600 pounds instead of Newmar's stickered 13,200 pounds.

My 2005 DS 4015 (also two slides) is packed for fulltiming and I have weighed it by wheel position five times. My front axled is 1200 lbs under GAWR and the rear axle is 800 lbs under GAWR.

By the way, we love our 2005 DS.

Hi Bob, I had a DSDP 4010 really like the coach after bugs were worked out but wife wanted more slides was the only reason for trading. As Norm stated watch the tires as the ride was terrible before replacing with the larger 275/80/22.5 size. Also Spartan changed the shocks which needs to be done to help the ride. There are more +'s then -'. s in this model. I had the china cabinet shortened and put a large screen TV in the open area really look great. I put over 40,000 trouble free miles on this coach

Bob,

We also have a 2005 Dutch Star but it is a 4015. I had access to getting the coach weighed at each wheel and did so several times. While we are not full timers we do spend about 6 months per year in our motorhome, therefore, we do not like to move our stuff in and out of the mh. So we have lots of stuff on board. With that said we have 1600lbs of capacity left on the rear axle and 600 lbs left on the front.

The 600 lbs remaining on the front is based on the factory axle rating based on the 70 series tires. With the 80 series tires, as indicated in the previous post by Norm, the true axle rating can be realized which greatly increases the safety margine of the weight carried if needed.

So my point is you can believe the carrying capacity as listed by Newmar for the '05's.

You didn't say if you were going to be a fulltimer or not. If you are going full time the large carrying capacity will be appreciated.

Rick, we have a Corian shop near here that makes counters for kitchens. We have had sink covers made before and thought of them when building cabinets. Use the stove front leaf so they could match up edge of other counters.
The counter is same as main counter Sahara, they could match any counter style in Corian lineup.
There must be shops in your area that can do same for you.

Thanks to all for the great info. The things mentioned - like undersized tires - are really invaluable for bargaining on a price!

Terry - we will probably be 'snow (rain) birders' for the most part, being from Washington State. I would guess that we would average 5 to 6 months in the coach per year or more. We had originally planned to buy a trawler yacht and cruise the 'Great Loop' - circumnavigate the Eastern U.S. However, what with the current economy and changes to our retirement future, we opted to 'cruise' on the highways and byways visiting most of the same places we would have seen in a boat. Either way, it has been our experience to meet extraordinary folks where ever we stopped in a park or moored in a slip. That is the life we yearn for.

I also dream of cruising the Great Loop! I read PassageMaker magazine so that I'm up on my trawlers when my ship (full of money) comes in.

By the way, we travel with two Burmese cats, LeMeiux and Hurakan.
