2006 Essex Radio Swap

Has anyone swapped their radio out. I have come to enjoy having Bluetooth and mp3 (iPOD) capability on my radio. I ordered a Pioneer DEH-X6600BT single din to try to install in the slot of the original Pioneer DEH-P47DH 1 1/2 din. Found it to be very difficult because 1 1/2 din components are very difficult to get. Found a
1 1/2 din > 1 din adapter at Car Toys but the curvature of the dash proved to be problematic. Also, centering the new radio to fit into the dash fascia would have been difficult. Thinking about cutting a single din hole in the flat fascia by the dash air control. Any thoughts? Yes, I would have 2 radios mounted but only the new one would be operative, albeit low on the dash. A double din would be nice but I don't need navigation.

You could build in a small tray in the empty spot where you remove the old radio.

I installed a single din where a dbl din was. I put in a Kenwood w/Bluetooth for phone and Sirius Satellite. A great improvement. I built a matching cherry wood tray for our phones in the open spot that was the dbl din. All works great.

Lloydu......There's got to be a way to make the new one fit in the old hole. Do you really want to cut up that beautiful dash and have a dead radio next to the new one. How about visiting a shop that does installs and see if they have some ideas.

I know they make some foam inserts that should help with the angles.

Don
I'll check with Car Toys. They do a lot of installs so they may have a solution. Thanks.
