2006 Essex - Speaker upgrade

The work is not complete, but here is the plan.

Replace the tiny pair of speakers; 1 speaker is for the dash radio and the other is for the home theater (rear channels).

My speaker cabinet is only 5.5 inches wide which limits options for putting in a larger speaker. I really wanted the largest speaker I could fit.

Here is my experience adding a 6x9 car audio speaker to replace the 2 small speakers. I will be adding a source selector to choose between the dash radio and the home theater amp.

Before and somewhere in the early middle...

A lot of effort went into the source selector functionality. The switch chosen was long enough to access from the front of the grill and light weight enough to flipped with a finger.

I had to do some soldering to add the quick connects.

I then mounted the switch to a metal plate that will be glued onto the back of the speaker grill
