2006 Scottsdale Sidewall Crack

I have a 2006 Newmar with 2759 miles on it, I picked it up in late 07. When I was washing the unit a few weeks back I noticed a crack above the side door. The crack is about 3" long and only a hair crack but for me a big concern. I contacted the dealer and they enform me that since the unit was off warrenty (by 6 months)that I should try newmar for the fix cost. I emailed newmar with pictures of the crack and first they said if I drop by the factory they would fix at a reduced rate, since I live in Nova Scotica Canada I emailed them back and asked how that would be a cost effective repair fo me. They don't appear to be be too happy about me asking them to cover the cost of the repiar locally, has any one else had a crack above the door with a newmar unit? and any idea's how this crack came to be

I have a 2004 Scottsdale. I just did a visual inspection of the area above the door and could not see any cracks.
I do have issues with front passengers side where the body has separated from part of the frame. This will be the 3rd time this has happened. The welds have broken loose.
Good luck with your problem.

Is Newmar still cover your problem? we are retiring in the Victoria area, we will be leaving for BC on Thnursday from Nova Scotia. I stop drilled the cracks and hopefully they will not grown any more. We do love out Scottsdale and if it wasn't for this crack thing I would be a happy guy.

Newmar does not cover any cost of repairs as we are out of our 3 year warranty some time ago.
If you are crossing the country, you could stop at the factory along your route if you were going through the USA. You most certainly do not want to see any moisture getting through that crack.
We are In Ontario and heading home about the 15th and hope to stop at the factory to get some repairs done along the way.
We are the same as you, we love our Scottsdale. There always seems to be some issues that need attention, but that part of the fun of RV'ing.
That is quite a move across the country. If you are interested in joining the local Newmar Klub on the island, send me a pm and I will put you in touch with them.

First if you go to find and type in Newmar cracks you will see that there was a problem with hair line cracks in the sides of some Newmars with darker colors.
After finding those post you should understand why Newmar would rather have you come to them.
If it is one of the big problem rigs, they remove the sides and replace them with a new covering that does not have this problem.
The original vendor went out of business and from what was told to me, the company has been sold at least 3-4 times. So what Newmar will do for you is eat some of the cost, but not all. There are some members on this site who has had this repair done.
Good luck and I hope it is just a crack with an easy fix.
