2014 Essex Nav Unit ?

The Essex brochure says the navigation unit is a Nav-N-Go, I tried to get information on this & I think this is the software that is installed in the unit (possibly Pioneer), looking for info regarding this.
Thanks

I installed a Kenwood in my Windsor about 5 years ago & it's constantly losing the vehicles location & going off the road I'm traveling on. I use a $250.00 Garmin & usually don't even bother with the Kenwood.
I just ordered a new Essex & was wondering if I should try & get a better unit than what it comes with, how do you like yours?

Mine has the same R-M unit as in the King. While I've only used it over a 3 hr. Trip so far, it seems to have some interesting features distinct from my Garmin unit. But I think the Garmin is easier to use, so will continue to use both units at the same time.

We also use a Garmin back-up along with DW using a whole range of other I based tools.
The factory unit gives more details than you could ever want, trip- high, low, avg speed for the day. Real time altimeter with high and low elevations for the day, fastest speed uphill, fastest speed downhill, and the list goes on and on and on. much more info than you could use and still be safely driving the coach. Once we figured out how to program the thing so the nice lady in there would quit giving me audio " speed warnings" over the speakers, we liked it a lot better.

Nforus,
Back in June 2013 you talked about having trouble with the Nav unit powering up & the screen locking up, did Newmar end up replacing that unit?

Yes, they actually replaced the entire coach!! We kinda had an experience like brobox (sp?) is having with a new Entegra. We had a bunch of problems with the 2012, Newmar kept in touch as we did not have a dealer in our state back then, they flew a tech out here, and when I finally asked them if this is how they wanted the King Aire experience to go, they said no. We struck an unbelievably fair deal and they built us a custom 2014. Customer for life here!! No yelling or screaming involved, 3 punch list items on delivery of our new coach, but we're smart enough to know that more are on the way as we use it. Just part of this game!!

I was just playing around with my R-M GPS and must say its got a LOT of features. I do like it as a supplement for my Garmin unit, but the Garmin is so easy to program on the fly that I don't think I'd be able to live without it.

In my last coach I had a stereo shop install an Insignia (Fujitsu) GPS audio unit and they did a fine job, so I wouldn't' rag on some of those guys in favor of factory techs....depends on who you go to. Later, I installed a Pioneer Avic unit and must say it was the most cumbersome unit I've ever used. I definitely would favor the rand McNally unit over the Pioneer.

We use two GPS units, the built-in Pioneer Unit and a Garmin Dezl 760 LMT mounted on the dash. The Garmin provides "18 wheel/Big Rig" parameters entry and "trucking/RV" warnings, cautions and advisories based on our travel route. I set the Pioneer up for a "God's Eye View" of the area we're traveling through, it makes a great combination!

Stealth, good to know I'm not the only overly GPS'd guy out there. Yes, nice to have one on detailed info with another on regional settings. And some things show up on one but not the other. Of course, that can also get confusing when an immediate decision has to be made...LOL!

That is exactly what I do with mine as well. I also added a 10 display for the cameras on to the dash
