2014 Ventana Tire Pressures

Hi all;
I was finally able to weigh my Ventana with full fuel and water, empty black and gray tanks, all basement stuff in, all passengers on board, and only missing around 100 lbs in the fridge. All the tires are Michelin XRV 305/70x22.5.
I was only able to weigh the front axle, and then the rear axles as a combination.
My front weighed 12002 lbs, and the rear weighed 15,807 lbs.

According to Michelin, for single axle 305/70 R22.5 tires, the fronts can handle 12,440 if I run them at 90 psi. I don't know the side to side loading, so I thought setting them at 95 psi, (for 12,990 total) would probably give me enough safety in case of some side to side loading imbalance.

For the rears, a weight of 19060 lbs is allowed for the duals at a pressure of 75 psi. Since I couldn't get a weight of the duals and then the tag, I thought I would run all 6 tires at 80 psi and I would be safe enough.

What do you guys think? Am I off base, or missing something key? When I am able to get all corners done, I'll be able to get a much better idea, but I need some advice for the time being.
Thanks a lot.
Rob

When I have questions like this I will often refer to the manufacturer. From the Michelin truck tire site:

Safest, since you didn't get individual wheel weights, is to run the pressure shown on the weight sticker at the drivers seat.

Hi quadder,
You have the right plan. It is what I do. My only suggestion is to go to 85 PSI on the rear tires.

I am running with 95 front and 75 rear and that was after I had all wheels weighed individually. The factory sticker numbers are ridiculous because it assumes you can actually carry 10,000 lbs of cargo. Your numbers look pretty good to me.

Thank you Algoma and everyone else.
I feel a lot better now. You folks have WAY more experience than me.

I think your good. My Ventana came from the dealer with 110 all around. Rode like a rock. Weighed it, used the Michelin tables and the ride was sweet after that. I used the same logic as you - table weight + 5. I also use the TST TPMS to keep an eye on things.

You really should try to get the TAG and Drive axles weighed separately. I've been able to position my 4037 on the CAT scales with all three on separate tables easily at several different CAT locations. It's not the holy grail of four (six) corner weighing but close enough to get your tire pressures set.

With the TAG and drive together as you have it, it would be difficult to get the pressures right IMHO.

I have a 2014 Ventana 4037. Had it weighed last year at Escapees North ranch. With fully loaded bays, full water, 1/2 tank of fuel, empty black & grey tanks, and me in the seat.
Individual wheel weights: Front left: 6000 Front Right: 6000 Left Dual: 8000
Right Dual: 8400 Left Tag: 3800 Right Tag: 3600.
allowing for a little additional loading and better steering feel, I am running my fronts at 100 psi, and my rears / tags at 85 psi.

Hi britcon;
I wonder why your rear end is so much heavier than mine?
I wonder if my wife actually had me stop with all of the rear wheels on the scale? Now I'm a little confused. There is no way that your rig should be that much heavier than mine. It looks like another trip to the scale is in our near future just to be sure.
Thanks for your input.

Rob, I just checked my numbers and both my left and right rear (drive + tag) weigh around 11,000 lbs so it looks like your numbers are low rather than Britcon's being high.

These are my weights for my 2015 Ventana 4037. Full fuel, full water, driver and passenger, towing a Wrangler Unlimited.

Steer axle: 11800
Drive axle: 16420
TAG axle: 7240
TOAD: 4720

These weights were obtained on a CAT scale, using two weighings, repositioning axles and Toad on the three pads.

Looking more closely at the OP's #'s, the rear seems light, almost like the TAG wasn't weighed at all.

quadder, I was told that 85 psi was the minimum for 295/80's to keep the tire on the rim. I don't think the chart for those tires goes lower than 85 psi. You might check the pressure chart for your size tires to see what the minimum psi is.

Have 2015 Ventana 4037. In September 2015 had Newmar in Nappannee (while getting warranty work done) weigh and adjust tire pressure. LF 5855 lbs, RF 5415 lbs, LR 7890 lbs, RR 8475 lbs, LR2 3755 lbs and RR2 3285 lbs. Based on weights, they set front at 80 PSI and rear at 75 PSI. Rides/handles like a dream. As matter of fact, when we return to Nappannee next month, we will let them weight and adjust again. Better safe than sorry.
