2015 Bay Star 3402 Are the slide out locks necessary?
I've got a 2015 Bay Star 3402. Because one of the bedroom slide out locks are hard to get to I only use one lock. Should I use both or just not lock the slide for travel?

New Bay Star Sport with three slides. On two of the slides the rear locks are hard to get to and have crawl over the bed so I just do the front locks. For the kitchen slide, I do them both.

We lock the front locks on both slides as the rears on both are hard to get to. My experience is the way the slide mechanism is designed keeps it from creeping (unless the coach is doing high-G turns, flips or rolls over, which fortunately I have not done). This is with the non-hydraulic Newmar slides, I do not have the HWH hydraulic mechanism found on the tile floor slides.

Hi Carolina Fun,
The short answer is use the locks, all of them. I do. On the BSS, BS and CS the bedroom locks can be difficult to get to. Practice makes the task much easier. I suggest using the locks because:
1. The locks allow a solid mechanical bond with the side wall of the coach.
2. Coaches decelerate much faster than they accelerate. Without the locks, the slide is just sitting on its' rails. Over time the slide can move forward. Not much, but enough to compromise the reveal on the front of the slide. If this happens, one will need to know how to move the slide backward to its' original position or take it in for service and have the pros do it.
3. Using the locks minimizes this movement. On many coaches the movement is eliminated.

I am curious, I have a 2015 BayStar 3401. I was aware of the full wall slide lock behind the drivers seat but didn't know there was a lock for bedroom slide. Is there one for the bedroom slide?

Hi bevo7,
Every slide has two locks; one on the front and one on the rear of the slide. BS slide locks are not the easiest components to see. A flash light will help.

Because it wasn't a tight fit, I actually had the front slide lock disengage from the street side slide on my 2014 Bay Star 3103. I was a very bumpy section of road. Somehow when I went to extend the slide, the front sprocket managed to jump a tooth. I ended up having to have the slide realigned. Since it was realigned, the slide lock is much tighter
We also only engage the front lock on the bedroom slide, as it's too tough to get to the back one.
