2015 Canyon Star 3921 towing?

Is the 2015 Canyon Star 3921 capable of having a 800lb golf cart in the garage and towing a late model Jeep Wrangler up very steep grades like up north and out west without any issues?
Also what we have in the garage effects what we can tow?

One has to remember that for every 1,000 feet in elevation you lose 3% power. Another suggestion is to shift down on grades and keep engine RPM around 3,500. You will be slowing down on 6% plus grades. Might check tow hitch for weight limit. Sounds like you are going to be over 5,000 lbs. in tow.

Your GVWR is 26,000lbs and 30,000lbs GCWR, rear axel 17,000lbs. Suggest you get it weighed with your normal travel load with the golf cart onboard and see what you have left. If the golf cart is aft of the rear axel, the extra weight on the rear axel will be greater than 800lbs because the C of G will shift to the rear. Must not exceed axel, GVWR or GCWR (combined wt). Good luck. I think you will exceed specs if you put the golf cart in the garage and tow a wrangler.

Sounds like a no go. Very stupid for Newmar design a motorhome not to be able to accommodate your basic needs like a golf cart and a car.

I was just informed that the garage max storage is 2000lbs. So the golf cart is a non issue.

The sales rep stated the garage is rated for 2000lbs. He said with the golf cart in the garage and towing the Jeep is no problem. He has clients that have a pair of fully dressed Harleys that weigh over 1000lbs in the garage and towing a car. They have one customer with a trike in the garage and towing a car also.

Hmm RV Buddy Good luck with 2000 lbs in the Garage. Likely true because it may be able to take a Smart Car for example. But I suggest you get it weighed in various configurations (by individual wheel preferably) to determine just where you are vis-a-vis weight distribution and go from there. Again Good luck.

I suggest the sales person does not have a clue about GVWR, GCWR etc "LAWS" based on his bad info. Never exceed axel wt, GVWR, GCWR to be legally safe.

I went through this a few years ago when I was pulling an enclosed race trailer. It was a Coachman on a Ford chassis. I called Coachman, they told me the hitch limit is a deciding factor and if I upgraded the hitch I could pull a 10,000 trailer. I installed a different hitch and towed with it for several thousand miles without any problems. Just don't go crazy with the tongue weight. You will have near zero tongue weight with a tow bar.

RVBuddy, The NCC on your MH is around 4350 lbs, if it is built the same as the 2014 model....and unless they changed something for 2015 your rear axle weight capacity should be 17,500 lbs. I don't think and 800 Lb golf cart is going to max you out, and I think the Wrangler is less than 5000lbs curb weight, and like Rodz said you will hav near zero tongue weight, so I think the Newmar rep is right. I had spoken to Newmar reps before we bought, and all their info was right on. Not all sales people are clueless about stuff like this either, alot of them own MH's too and deal with the same issues.

Do not believe any salesman. Remember they are being paid to sell. Also do not overload any axel or vehicle. If you are involved in an accident, your fault or not, the lawyers will have everything weighed and your insurance may not cover you. Just my 2 Cents....

RV BUDDY You might be OK but suggest you look at the weights on your sticker and as I suggested, have the RV weighed under fully loaded conditions and go from there. You should not exceed the posted weights.

The notion of beefing up the hitch to 10000 lbs and you are good to go in one of the posts is hardly sage advice. Tow weight involves much more than a hitch rating.

Good luck and it is wise to check these issues out as you have done before you hit the road.

The 26,000 chassis is more than capable of towing much more than 10,000 lbs. An F250 pick up truck can haul that much
