2015 Dutch Star Fresh Water Sanitizing Problem

Just got our new 2015 Dutchey out of storage and was attempting to sanitize the fresh water system and tank. After reviewing the process in the owners manual, I placed all valves in the proper position per the manual. I placed the winterizing hose in a five gallon pail of chlorine solution and turned the pump on. The pump began to draw solution immediately, ran about 10-15 seconds and shut off. I ran some water out of the outside shower handle and the pump restarted but shut off as soon as I shut the shower handle off. For whatever reason, the pump isn't filling the fresh water tank as described in the owners manual. I'm looking for some help here! I can't understand why the pump keeps shutting off so quickly!! Any suggestions are much appreciated.

The pump is sensing back pressure in the plumbing system, and shutting off.
Possible that the tank fill valve is labeled incorrectly or the handle isn't indexed to the label , try moving the tank fill handle 90 degrees. If the pump is pressurizing the outside shower then the valve isn't right.

Is there a selector valve that directs water, when hooked up to externally fed water, into either your coach pipes (for the sinks, shower, toilet ) or, when moved 90 degrees, directs it into your fresh water storage tank? Not sure but have you tried doing what you are doing except move that selector to the "fill fresh water tank" location? May not work but it is the first thing that came to mind when I read your post. Good luck.

I've tried the fresh water tank fill valve in both the open and closed positions and it makes no difference. The pump will not run unless I open the outside shower handle and then only for 10-15 seconds after I shut the shower handle off. This is strange since the coach was winterized by Midway RV before putting it into storage. I chased all the pink antifreeze out of it this morning but can't get the the system to draw the sanitizing solution. I realize that the valve configurations are different for sanitizing as opposed to winterizing. Very frustrating!!

Will your fresh water tank fill with hose attached and valve in fill position. I had one of my valves stop functioning correctly. When I started investigating I found that valve wasn't actually opening due to handle being stripped. Check your tank file valve for correct operation.

It's not necessary to suck bleach into water tank as you would winterizing.
Just put the bleach in the water hose you hook for city water and set city water valve to fill fresh water tank than pump mixture through your plumbing system.
Here is a winterizing by-pass valves set ups to by-pass your water heater,
item # 2 are the valves, just put valves for summer use the opposite from winter set up.
By putting in water hose you sanitize everything.

007,

Thanks for your reply. I did manage to get in touch with one of the tech's at Midway RV and he explained to me that you cannot use the winterizing valve and hose to fill the fresh water tank. You can use it to pull sanitizing solution through the water lines just as you would antifreeze solution but it will not fill the fresh water tank that way. As you mentioned, in order to sanitize the fresh water tank, chlorine must be put into a hose from a water source, attached to the hose reel and then fill the fresh water tank. Easy enough for sure but I was following the procedure as outlined in the 2015 Dutch Star owners manual. Go figure! Thanks again.

Michman. I had the same problems you have found when I tried to sanitize our 2014 new DS about this time last year. I called Newmar and received the proper information similar to you. Since the manual was incorrect, I emailed CS at Newmar with the suggestion that the manual needs an update. Still no corrections apparently...oh well. I saw a post suggesting that you could pour the bleach in the filter tube which you should probably take the filter out anyway and allow it to flow into the fresh water tank from there. Sounded like a pretty good idea but think cleaning the hose is nice also. Maybe I'll do a little of each. Glad you received the answer you needed.

Too bad they got rid of this feature. I've done this several times when boondocking to fill the fresh water tank from a 6 gal jug.

Yep, I know what you mean. At the Phoenix GS rally they would fill your fresh water tank for something like $40 if you had gravity fill and $65 for pressure fill. Seems odd to me to charge different amounts though. Luckily the Magna has both so I can take the cheapest way if I need to.
