2016 Dutch Star

I'm new to this forum as I just traded my Tiffin for a Newmar. I was looking at Newmar website and seen they are putting a 19000 pound axle on the 2017, what is the difference in the 18000 they are putting on my 2016

The biggest change is having the ability to put on larger tires.

365 tires and different wheels rated for the weight and tire size. A very minor change to the wheel well to allow for the wider tire.

Wheel wells on 2016 have insufficient clearance for 365 tires. 2017s have re-designed wheel wells allowing use of 365 tires. Pretty much the same otherwise...

Newmar's own video says the 40' has a 315, not 365:

Yes 40' has 315s and 17K front axle, the 43' has 365s and 19K front axle.

Our rig has the Reyco-Granning 20,000# front axle with dual steering boxes and the 365 tires. Our weight is 18,030 with us in the rig. The 19,000# axle on the DSDP should work great. At least Newmar is stepping up to the plate now.

Thanks!

I think that arrangement makes sense given the size of the coaches respectively.

The 2017 DSDP 43' with Spartan chassis has the same RG IFS2000 front axle, just rated at 19K vs 20K of your's (or the ESDP, LADP, or MADP). Along with the 365 tires the 19K front axle is a major upgrade from the original 2016 factory release of 17K front axle with 315 tires.

Kudos to Newmar for rectifying the 2016 DSDP 43' full-wall slide front axle overweight issues.

One can only hope that Newmar will offer a reasonable factory upgrade package of the 2017 wheel wells and 365 tires/wheels to the 2016 DSDP 43' owners to giving them the extra 1000# of front axle capacity of the 2017 coaches over the 2016 fix.
