2016 Dutch Star radio/nav question

We recently ordered our 2016 Dutch Star 4369 slated for production October 6. During our build we opted to delete the Clarion nav radio. We would prefer to have a portable RV nav system and replace the stock radio at a future date. It is our understanding that the stock radio is a Sony single DIN unit unlike the Clarion double DIN unit. DIN being the size of the opening. We have talked with multiple people at the factory and no one could tell us if the stock radio (single DIN, half size) is installed with a filler but still has the double DIN opening. If this is only a single DIN opening, we could not later install a double DIN unit without completely replacing the complete template, which would require a tremendous amount of work. This involves the back up camera, toggle switches, etc. I can't imagine that Newmar would make multiple templates as opposed to simply blanking off a double DIN opening? Has anyone else ordered the stock radio and could you tell us if it's a full size double DIN opening with a filler?

I just took delivery of my 2016 DS and I ordered it with the stock radio. I did not like the Clarion GPS in my last DS. The stock unit is the Sony WX-GT90BT which is double DIN. By the way, the radio in the 2016 sounds much better than the 2015. The upgraded JBL speakers are really noticeable.

Any idea what model JBL's Newmar is installing? The clarion speakers in our 15 DS just don't put out much of anything but a flat cheap sound no matter what the settings are. I'm going to swap them out. As for the GPS, it takes some getting used to but works ok. If I had to do it all over I would pass and get a stand alone.

Thank you - this is great news and information. If the Sony radio is adequate we will just leave it and not change it out. Unbelievable that nobody at the factory had this information. Hope you're enjoying your new DS. I'll PM you if you would like to send me a picture of the Sony installed. We will check out the model you listed online as well.

2016 DS contains a JBL 180 watt custom-EQ'ed amplifier, (2) JBL GT7-5 5 1/4" coaxial speakers, and (2) JBL MS6510 6" speakers.

Thanks AV Gene! I really want to change out the speakers in our coach. The speakers we have leave a lot to be desired!

The subwoofer, placed under the dash, and the speakers built into the wood columns where the cockpit walls meet the slide rooms, most likely couldn't be added even if specials said they would try. The custom amplifiers and profiles would also not match between diesel and the "luxury" diesels.
