2017 Dutch Star Entry Door Lights coming ON while driving....

Hello.

Is there any recent information concerning where to locate the "center magnet" within the entry door assembly in an effort to completely disengage the entry door lights from coming on then timing off when the entry door is either opened or closed? I read a dated thread that noted how to disable the entry door light function on a 2019 Mountain Aire 4018 via removing the center entry door magnet, but unable to query this member directly due to the thread no longer being active.

Our 2017 Dutch Star 4018 now has the entry doors lights coming on intermittently while driving with the door fully closed and locked. Most importantly and of concern, this recently occurred while driving at night making visibility outside the coach difficult at best. This all occurred after a good size pothole on I-95 in South Carolina rattled the coach causing the entry door lights to come on, then time off. After a short while later, the entry lights continued to come on and time off with no reason. And shortly thereafter, they continued to cycle on and off, and are now on more often than off while driving with the entry door fully closed and locked.

I'd just like to remove the entry door light function entirely. Any assistance/information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Robbie

Not sure but there might be a fuse that can be pulled out to prevent the entry lights from coming on in the first place.

Also isn't the magnet switch closed when the magnet is applied. Might try a separate magnet on the door to find the switch that opens the circuit, moving the magnet to each plastic plug to see which one it is.

2017 Dutch Star Entry Lights Light Issue....

Dutchstar411,

Thank you for responding to my entry door light issue. But, are you able to specifically identify the location of the magnets? Are you referring to the black plastic door plugs within the door jam, and if so, which of the many plugs are where the magnets are located? I've removed a few of these plugs and only see hardware used to secure the door frame to the coach.

Thank you once again.

I looked at my door today and saw near the bottom of both the door and the frame three large plastic plugs. Also on the inside of the frame there are two contacts that push in towards each other when the door closes. I'm not sure which one does what. But I would try this which doesn't take alot of time. Take a separate magnet, not one in your door but a separate magnet and hold it next to the three plugs, one at a time with the door open and see if and or any would turn the lights on or off, giving it time to reset the lights in the first place. I believe the double contacts on the inside of the door and frame are most likely for the locking of the door itself.

I'm sure someone here has already gone through this and knows where the switch is for the entry lights or a possible fuse. Haven't had to battle this in my 2015 Dutch Star but did change out the switch in my 2002 Dutch Star.

2017 Dutch Star Entry Lights Light Issue....

Hello again Dutchstar411.

Once again, I sincerely appreciate your continued assistance with my entry door light issue. Your recent post is quite accurate regarding the 3 black plastic plugs located at the lower portion of the entry door and door frame/jam. After exchanging messages with Newmar Customer Service, Mr. Spencer Standley, Dutchstar model specialists with whom I've engaged on many other issues, he also detailed the location of the 3 magnets and switches as you have. The magnets are located within the lower portion of the door, and switches opposite within the door frame/jam, and it is the center switch and magnet that control the entry door light. After removing the plugs one at a time, the center magnet had a 1.5" stainless steel bolt and washer stuck to the back of the magnet most likely causing the center switch to activate the entry door light each time the coach shifted while driving allowing the bolt to contact the inner portion of the door, or the upper or lower magnets and momentarily triggering the center switch to activate the entry door lights. I'll be able to verify my findings and corrective action once I put our coach on the road again.

As for the two brass spring-loaded pins located within the inner, center portion of the entry door and frame/jam, they are associated with the Trimark entry door locking system. If your entry door lock begins to not function properly when depressing the door lock/unlock rocker switch, use a fine file to brush the tips of the brass pins to promote better contact between the pins, and this should solve the problem of the door lock/unlock switch working intermittently or not at all.

Once again, thank you for your input and assistance with my entry door light issue.

Robbie
