2017 Dutch Star GPS/Navigation System
I have read a lot of comments over the past on different gps systems, but have not read too much positive on the factory installed system.
Is anyone happy with it?
Does it have the capability to provide routes based on heights and size inputs?
What has been solutions for those unhappy?

I had the NX405 and after I sold it and bought the NX405TRK I loved it. We had an iPad with google maps and the Garmin RV760. The Clarion was the best. Every time we listened to the Garmin instead we were sorry we did and the google maps don't take your size into consideration. The Garmin would take us off the freeway, through a few street lights and back onto the freeway. I've had the Garmin route me to the end of a dead end street and tell me I had to walk the rest of the way. If the Clarion had a passenger screen we wouldn't have bothered with the Garmin, but the DW had to have some sense of where we were going. Plus she used Trip Planner on the iPad. I would have ordered it again if it was an option in the 2018. 10,000 miles, never let me down.

I think the reason that a lot of us don't like the factory installed system is that if it works, great... But if it doesn't work well, you are stuck with it and are at the mercy of factory updates. Not easy to change when it's installed in the dash. The Garmin RV760 is one of the best units I've owned, and I've owned a lot of them, over the years.

We have it and use it all the time and have no complaints. It does allow you to input your vehicle info (height, weight, length, etc) and then will give you warnings or re-route if needed. We have driven over 6,000 miles with it so far and it has not let us down yet.

The 405TRK / truck version allows you to program in your coach, the earlier model 405 did not. We have used it along with our Garmin and are very happy with the results after 7K miles and headed out for another 6K mi in a few weeks.

We have a 2015 DSDP 4369, the Clarion function very well in all functions except Navigation which is hard to deal with in fact, Clarion is hard to deal with! So, we added the Garmin RV760LMT and all is right. We did that within a week of buying the coach, 2 years ago. We have been very pleased ever since!
All the best to you

Our 2015 DS came with the Clarion and we have been quite pleased with it. Absolutely you will have a choice to choose route based on car vs bus. Shortly after delivery we were unhappy with it and with some forum help we learned we needed to download updates and we also chose to download (additional $) points of interest.

Bchtravlr, the 405TRK in my 2017 DS works just fine. As others have mentioned you can load your coach parameters into the unit. Routing has been good so far. I also run Co-Pilot on my iPad and the two routes will match 90% of the time. Have only gotten one strange routing from the Clarion.
I like Co-Pilot for the traffic info. Since I already have the iPad and use it for locating camping sites along with all of the other stuff like mail it made sense to buy that app when it went on sale at 50% off rather getting another device.

2017 Dutch Star GPS/Navigation System
I have the Clarion 405TRK on my 17 DSDP 4018. It works well but it does not seem to generate routes as a truck even through I have entered the RV size. I don't see a setting to make it route as a truck. I also have a Garmin Dezl and have compared the two units. The Garmin works better for truck/RV routing. Also has all the truck POI (truck stops, scales, service). My DS came with the 405TRK. If I were ordering a coach, I would not order the factory GPS. I have not used the Garmin RV model.

For enabling the proper routing in the Clarion you need to add a new profile. The defaults, specifically the truck profile, won't work for a coach. The setup is not documented anywhere in the manual which is the poorest waste of electrons/paper I've seen in a long time.
