I agree. Just remember that even though we have fixed the problem ourselves, a dealer must still do the work to remove the recall from the vin.

As a matter of safety, I strongly urge everyone to check yours before driving.

Made the trip to the dealership, as others mentioned takes less than an hour (Newmar pays the dealer .8 of an hour for the check/fix).

In fact, happened before we could get a lunch order together.

RedBaron73, your complete documentation was very helpful in understanding the issue, appreciate your postings on this and other issues as well.

I checked mine before the trip, and the dealership was great getting us in a couple days after I called.

Now to tackle a couple thousand love bugs.

Cheers all.

Same here. FL told me they have a 2 hour labor minimum and Newmar won’t budge off the .8 hour.

Fortunately, it appears I’m clean on that one. That recall affected various chassis products manufactured by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC, or F-Triple-C as the Freightliner folks refer to it). Our Super Star was built on an M2-106 regional delivery truck cab & chassis, which is manufactured by mainline Freightliner rather than FCCC.

I just did a visual check anyway and found the valve stems for the inner drive tires nicely centered in their respective holes in the outer drive tire wheels – see photo below.
My 22 DS has valve stem problems. I cannot even get the air hose connected to most of them. Looking for curved extensions but have not found any off line. Ordered a straight set on line that did not help. Is this something that can be corrected under the warranty?

Steering Recall

Thanks to Redbaron73 for the info. Forum always seems to be more timely than directly from Newmar.
I'm checking mind tomorrow before I take the coach in to have the dryer R&R'd so Splendid can repair. I've contacted the local dealer to see about getting them to check and sign-off before I take off a on a two week trip on the 9th. I will be surprised if they can get it done before then. Their shop is extremely backed up.

Checked both upper and lower bolts on our 2022 LA, both OK.
About an hour job start to finish . Will have Nappanee recheck in August but at least for now I know the coupler won’t disconnect. Again, great information you provided Ronnie. We thank you [emoji120]

I called Freightliner and they told me it’s a Newmar issue. I was SUPER lucky in that I had a service appointment (in the books for 2 1/2 months ago made it- ridiculously backed up!) When I picked up my coach I asked the tech why FL wouldn’t fix it. They said bc when FL shipped to Indiana for the build-all was good. When Newmar got their paws on it was when the issue was created

More correctly, FL provided the column and intermediate shaft, along with other parts that couldn't be installed prior to building the body, in a big box strapped to the raw chassis. Newmar assembled all those parts in Nappanee as they built it.

It wasn't that Newmar undid the good work of FL. Assembling that steering system is not, and never has been, a task for FL or Spartan.

This recall should really be for any Newmar Diesel Pusher 2014 and up, not just 2021 and newer.

For anyone reading this thread, please be aware that this issue came up with a gentleman that has a 2014 Newmar Vantana and his steering was blocked while on the road doing 60 MPH. It was his Knuckle/U-Joint just under the steering wheel.

Then another gentleman had his steering shaft fall out from the bottom Knuckle/U-joint for the same reason, a loose nut, and again while driving.

I'll post the links below:

https://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/los...-582463-2.html

On mine, I drilled holes through the bolts just after the nut and used stainless steel cotter pins, bend back around the bolt threads. Now there is no way they can come off the bolt.

I found that I can visually check the upper bolt on our 2015 DS with a mirror placed on the floor of the coach next to the brake pedal. The cover has a large gap at the bottom and shining a flashlight onto the mirror illuminates the bolt. Mine had a bunch of threads behind the nut.
