I created a simple spreadsheet to track fuel use. At each stop I note both the odometer and the Hobbs meter on the generator. I started assuming the Gen burns 0.5 gph, then adjusted over time until my calc burn closely matched my fuel purchase. Now use 0.6 gph. The spreadsheet extracts the gen fuel from the total purchase, and calcs fuel economy based on ‘net fuel to engine’.
I average 7.4 mpg over the past 9 years / 50K miles. 2002. DS 40, Cat 3126, about 35K Lbs down the road with toad.

Traveling with my RV buddy in his 07 Dutch Star 40ft with L9 400 HP engine towing a Jeep Wrangler from Gillette FMCA rally. We just filled up at the same time and traveled the same roads following each other. We both traveled 566 miles and both used 78 gallons of fuel for a average of 7.25 with both using gen for about 2 hours. We are traveling in a 18 LA with the X-15 605 with Durango. The millage is good but the fact that we used the same amount of fuel for both different rigs was very interesting.

Sounds like I need to slow down in order to get an extra 1.2 mpg… 😂

Better MPG

I have two suggestions:
1) Install a Banks Power Booster. I did on my diesel pusher and the MPG went from 6 to 15

2) Sign up for a free "Truckers" fuel account at EFS Fuel Card
https://www.efsllc.com/fuel-card/efs-fleet-card/

They ask for a lot of personal info when you sign up but that's because they issue you a credit card that automatically debits your bank account. Don't be scared. It works great. I have been using it for 3 years. I average a savings of $40 to $45 on a tank of fuel (70-75 gallons). The discounts usually run around 15% off the pump list price.

Mileage

I guess I’ll keep my 2012 Tiffin 32’ Allegro Breeze. I get 11.5 mpg Dolly towing my Harley Street Glide with my Mini Cooper Clubman. I have a heavy foot also and usually do the speed limit, when passing will bring it upwards another 5-10 mph to get around. Had an issue with the DPF filter but learned how to deal with it and now I’m on top of it to prevent future issues. I not only save on fuel but not having to put DPF in coach saves also.

Just picked up our new to us Tiffin Bus, 41 ft from Arizona and drove back to upstate NY, 2700 miles in 7 days, best mileage was 9.3 mpg, very happy.

As I calculate your use, you are hustling a couple hundred miles a day.
.
We are the other end of the spectrum.
We settle into an area, absorb the energy, invite the locals for a potlatch.
.
We rarely travel more than a hundred miles a month.
For us, mpg is irrelevant.

Blue Bird Wanderlodge

I met a couple earlier this year driving a restored first gen Blue Bird Wanderlodge...maybe it was a 1979 or 80, with the early model front end (underpowered) diesel. Vehicle weighs 30,000 lbs. He normally travels around 60mph, and sometimes pulls a Ford Ranger...and can get 14mpg when he's not pulling too many hills.

I had a 30' 1989 Mallard Sprinter with a Chevy 454 and could get 12mpg when driving conservatively. Never towed with it.

Mileage

We have a 2015 Thor Palazzo 36.1 DP with a Cummins 340 HP engine and we tow a 2016 Jeep Wrangler (less than 5,000 lbs) and we have always averaged between 9 and 10 MPG. Couldn't believe it the first trip we took after we purchased this (used) in 2018, but every trip since then has averaged between 9 and 10. Could not be happier.

We don't always cover that much ground in such a short time, but on this trip something came up and we had to get back home. However, one week in any place is generally enough for us.

I normally set the cruise at 65, even on the 80mph roads. This is plenty fast for me.

I would love to hear what mileage others with similar rigs are getting.
We just took our 2014 Anthem from Jax to NIRVC in Atlanta and back home again and got 9.72 MPG.
