Keep the roof clean and it won't clog the drains.
I guess we're opposite of a lot of people, but we don't like to park under trees as it interferes with satellite and makes a mess on the roof.

Drains

Always a monthly maintenance item. Here is my trick:
*Removed the Drain Covers and toss out. I stuff Dollar Store Aluminum Scrubbing Pads in the "Cups" Cleaning or Replacing monthly
*Removed Duck Bills at ends of Tubes and tossed out
*OFFEN-removed Pads and fill "Cups" with water and watch it drain. IF they are clogged-purchased a Fiberglass Electric Wire Snake from Lowes and push it threw out the end of the tube.
If you do a Search there are many "Tricks" other people have to clean the Never Ending Roof Drains.

Buy 15' of 1/4" clear tubing and an adaptor for it to fit on a garden hose. From the bottom of the drain, remove the duck bill, shove the tubing up the drain as far as you can and then give it an enema. Do this until you hear the water gurgling up on the roof.

I did all off the above . I used the plastic pot scrubbers instead of metal . I extended all the drains down about 4 inches to stop them spraying everywhere when they actually work . We live in ny and get a lot of seeds leaves etc. Cleaning the roof and gutters is like rubbing you head and your belly. Wash the roof it goes in gutter wash the gutter and it goes on roof and so on . I have used air water snake it just floods everytime it rains . It is the dumbest thing you could ever put on a MH. The well on the roof is adequate size but the drain hole is 3/8 at best. Looks very clean but completely impractical.

I have never had problems like you are having with either Newmar coach with the same design.. You either have some issues with the specific installation of the drains on your coach, or you just need to move LOL

I agree. In 10 years now with my DS I have had one clogged drain. I think it is a great feature & a great design. My last two coach's didn't have roof drains & I dealt with streaks from water draining. I'll take the drain system any day.

-LOL at this thread. 1st world RV problems are an issue. We don't have flood issues, but probably as expected here in AZ. I just cleaned mine, as we are heading up to CA and AK for a caravan. My issue was some leaves and dust/dirt. Best for me was blowing air up from the bottom duckbills, had to pull up the traps to get the leaves out, but then re-installed them. Cleaned before we get our first rain... Thanks for the question and all the answers.

DS roof drains

Not a great design.....I use on board air compressor and blow air (seal air nozzle with rag) up into the drain tubes, have to insert inside tube "rubber flap". I do it dry AND wet, usually you will see debrie blow out. Take out roof drain metal screen on roof first. Then, I pressure wash from top and make sure it's draining freely. At least annually

Clogged drins

I have a hot water tank rinser attachment from camco that I used on my gas coach. It is a small flexible hose that attaches a garden hose. It fits perfectly in to the drain plug and flushes it outs perfectly. Try itout.

I have always wondered why Newmar doesn't use larger diameter drain pipes. Then are ½" pex and connectors reduce that size. A 1-inch pipe would have about three times the capacity.
