Dean you must not feel the heat. I have seen you post this many times. I also saw post that you did not repair dash air and it had been broken for years. I can't live with 85 degree temps. 40 ft and larger MH get dam hot inside including my three Newmars.

4018 Dutchstar with 2 a/c units

I ordered our 2016 DSDP 4018 in February with the only A/C upgrade option available on the build sheet at the time, and that was for (2) 15M Penguin Heat Pump/AC's.

I asked our dealer to confirm that was the most I could get on this model, which he did.

The new cathedral ceiling in the aft batch prevents a 3rd unit from being installed there.

I'm picking it up on Monday and will keep you informed as to performance as we head south to Texas.

If these 2 units don't keep the coach (read DW) cool, there'll be a lightly used late model Dutch Star on the market real soon!

I find it weird that the DS 4369 3 ac option comes with a bigger generator, but not the Ventana.
Hi Brian,

The Ventana that I purchased has 3 13.5k and 8kw generator. Was told by dealer that 8kw generator will run 3 units.

In February while spending a couple monthes in Florida to get used to the new coach my rear A/C went out. Newmar support dispatched a repair man and a couple (3) weeks later the repairman came out with a new a/c unit and put it in.
All good. But when I was talking to support I asked why only 2 A/C units and he said that was the way it was ordered. I did not order it. He said they were adequate unless you are in Arizona in 90+ then it won't keep up. I have been i Texas the last 2 weeks
90+ and it is set on 72 and can't get below 76. I asked Newmar for a quote to install a 3rd A/C since we are going there anyway for odds and ends in August.
Got an interesting quote 3,500.00 for the A/C and 14,000 to upgrade the 8K gen set to 10k. This is necessary as my coach is all electric and the 8k won't run
3 A/Cs plus microwave, fridge etc if we are boondocking. We don't dry camp so
we went for the 3500.00 and will run it on shore power or shut it off if we are on the gen set and it is a problem. I am not complaining I didn't know better and my salesman wasn't forthcoming with the full story. And Newmar has been great
taking care of odds and ends.
The purpose of this is to make others aware before they buy so they have the information I didn't.
I am also getting the front end upgrade and didn't ask how much more the 10k weighed than the 8k
That is the same quote we got. We did not go for the gen upgrade either. When looking at gen prices from another source the difference in price between the 8000 and the 100000 was less than 2 grand.

Marcus,

Thanks. I don't see a option for three of the 13.5's, only the 15k units. I could see the 8kw running the 13.5's, but reading other posts have concern about it powering an all electric coach with 3 of the 15k's. Think I will call Newmar tomorrow and see what they say.

The reason for the Gen price was for a new 10k my 8k is used to them and has no value for a credit. And....what am I going to do with it.

Bill
There never was a listed option for three A/C on the 4018. People have been asking for it for years, and this thread is the first time I've seen it said it was possible.

There are things that Newmar will do that aren't listed on the option sheet, as other threads have demonstrated.

We have an all electric coach with a freezer in one of the bays, so if we have everything on in the coach and we put on that 3rd A/C it will turn the power off in the coach. On occasion that we forget and turn all 3 on, the generator will not shut down, we will get an E7 error reading on the units, we have to turn off all A/Cs and reset the generator before turning only 2 units back on.

When you say reset the gen do you mean it tripped the circuit breaker on the gen?

Living in Florida i can't imagine not having 3 ACs on my Discovery. We were at the beach last weekend with no shade and the 3 units kept a comfortable 78 degrees all day (much colder at night, we like it cold). I'm sure we would survive if one of the 3 pooped out on us, but if we only had 2 and 1 died it would be a summer trip deal breaker.

Pretty much how I feel ...

Realistically, a 40 ft. with 3 or 4 slides is marginal with 2 A/C. Even with 3 A/C it may require windshield insulation and maybe side window insulation if the outside air temp is 90+ and you are in the sun. A quick check of inside compartments/walls/glass with an IR thermometer will tell you what areas are in need of help.

I'm curious as to where they put the third roof air on a 4018.

Talked with the Newmar factory rep who told me putting a 10kw generator in the Ventana was more than likely a no go. Said the Ventana was not engineered for a 10kw.

Going to call Newmar to get the straight scoop. Not being able to power all 3 A/C's using the generator is probably a deal breaker.

The 10k and 12.5k are about 300lb heavier and about 6 inches longer than the 8k ... pretty significant.
