8KW Onan GenSet won't start on brand new 2018 Dutch Star
My Dutch Star is 3 months old. Tried to fire the genset from the button on the dash - nothing. Just clicking like a starter trying to crank on a dead battery... The genset has less than an hour on it... New to diesel pusher... Any ideas, comments, or advice most welcome... Thanks in advance! (Calling Newmar first thing tomorrow... )

What has worked for me is to run the engine for a few minutes then hit the dash button again.

If it is cold out it is going to take some time for the glow plugs to heat up. Just keep holding the button down until it starts cranking. Are there any lights flashing on the switch while you hold it down?
Other than that are your batteries fully charged?

Thanks guys. We were on the road for over 2 hours. Tried to crank it for several minutes using 5 second bursts... It wouldn't crank at all. Just that clicking noise like a car starter on a dead battery...

8KW Onan GenSet won't start on brand new 2018 Dutch Star
Hi Irish, the lighted toggle came on, but not the "PREHEAT" portion of the rocker switch. It was cold, but sunny mid-morning, probably 45° out...

Did you try starting it outside on the genset. I would hold the button for 10-15 secs

Our's takes 15 to 20 secs of keeping the switch pushed down before it will turn over in cool weather.

Hi Jim, yes, but again only in 5 second bursts. Same thing. Just clicking.

Hold the switch down for 30 seconds (it won't hurt anything) and if it doesn't crank over, then you need to start troubleshooting. It takes more than a "five-second burst" to get the glow plugs heated and the starter won't turn until they are.

Hold the switch down, it will crank. 5 seconds is not long enough.

Hi - It sounds like what you are hearing is the fuel pump priming. You must hold the button down for a longer time, then it will crank.

Thank you everyone... My only experience with gensets were all gassers... This is my first diesel genset... Just a total newbie... I will try again tomorrow. Thanks again.

Check the voltage to unit. Should be 12.8 volts. Have you tried the boost switch?
