96 Mountain Aire Battery Charger Problems

Hi guys, been awhile since I 've been here. Have a problem with my house battery charger. Power Source PC75. A couple of weeks ago I noticed my lights dimming, then other things. Checked my battery voltage and since the house batteries were 9 years old, replaced them. The new ones don't appear to be charging. In the past have noticed a humming sound from where the power cord comes into the motor home. Haven't heard it recently. All 110 items are functioning. And yes, batteries are connected just as the old ones were, I took photos to ensure I got it right.

My question is, anyone know where the fuses would be located for the transfer switch or the battery charger? Or does anyone have suggestions?

There are no fuses for the transfer switch. If merely switches the power source from the generator to the shore power cord. If it was not working you would not have 110V power in the coach. There is a circuit breaker in your 110V panel for the converter/battery charger. That controls the 110V input to the converter. On the converter itself, there are fuses for the 12V output which goes to your batteries. There might also be 12V self-resetting circuit breakers between the converter and the batteries. On my 99, the converter, transfer switch, and 12V circuit breakers are all located in the compartment where the shore power cord is.

Thanks, have looked and don't see a breaker for the converter/battery charger.

Todd Engineering , manufacturer of the Converter/Charger , has gone out of business .
The problems you describe ; dimming lights and then no out put to batteries ; are the same as my C/C as it died.
It's been 4 years since I replaced my C/C and there where ; if memory serves ; no internal fuses in the C/C , just the rancid odor of the burnt up transformer when I opened the case.

New C/Cs are available at a reasonable cost and are DIY installed in about 15 mins.

Strange that there is no breaker labeled for it in your panel. Use a multimeter or test light to verify that there is 110V at the outlet where the C/C plugs in. As Skip426 mentioned, Todd Engineering went out of business years ago. I replaced my C/C with a Progressive Dynamics PD9280. The fan on my original C/C had failed and it would overheat and shut down. It took about 10 minutes or so to swap it out. Was just over $200 if I recall correctly.

In the mean time, you can get by just using a "smart" battery charger to keep your batteries from getting discharged. It is not good for battery life to let them repeatedly get below a 50% state of charge.
