Question Abs fault

2007 DS4023

During our recent trip, we started getting this ABS FAULT when starting the engine. Rotating through the options silenced the audible alarm but the ABS light remained lit. Other than the alarm, I noticed no problems with braking.

I have searched the manual and internet for a cause and solution but without success.

I have an appointment with Jacksonville, FL Cummins (they are also the local Spartan contact) this Thursday for yearly maintenance. The Cummins maintenance rep said they will look into it but didn’t sound confident and couldn’t give any possible reasons or an estimate for the labor/parts.

I want to be as well-informed as possible when talking to them.

If you have had experience with this issue and can offer insight I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

The ABS light being on isn't an indication of an issue with the service brakes ; only that you have no ABS braking function .

This can be an issue with a bad wheel speed sensor , the sensor wiring or even an internal issue with the ABS control module .
Without a diagnosis , from a special read out tool , the shop can't narrow the problem down , and won't be able to provide any kind of estimate of repair cost.

Ask for an estimate on the repair as soon as the diagnosis is complete.

On my 2005 Monaco Diplomat, the ABS sensor was on the wheels. We were forced, during road construction, to drive through a muddy road. That was enough to cause the sensor to malfunction. We stopped and I crawled under and rinsed off the wheels. Tha cleared the problem.

Newer models read the ABS differently, but yours may have exposed sensors. Have you traveled through any snow or dirty/muddy conditions.
