I’m using the Garmin 1090 GPS with the 10” screen instead of the built in Xite system GPS in the dash. I’m casting the navigation to the overhead TV wirelessly. This feature is accessed by:

- Settings
- Device
- Sounds and Notifications
- Cast
- Note: once on the cast screen you may need to enable casting by clicking on the little 3 dots in the upper right corner and the. Clicking on the enable check box.

Thank you!
Excellent idea - I have the same setup but missed this feature. Found some details:
Requirements for Casting an Automotive Device to a Wireless Display
You can show the contents of the device screen on a compatible wireless display. The following wireless display types should be compatible.

Chromecast
Chromecast-compatible TV
Compatible display device like a Google Home Hub
To Connect to a Wireless Display:

Bring your device near the wireless display
Touch Settings
Touch Device
Touch Sound & Notification
Touch Cast
Touch the 3 dots in the top right corner
Touch box next to Enable wireless display to enable
Select a wireless display
If necessary, enter the PIN

Great info, I just tried to hook my 890 to our overhead tv and worked perfectly. Does anyone know if this would work somehow wirelessly to an ipad or other tablet type device?

So far no. I have been testing several devices for the last few days to gain some clarity. So far my testing of a Garmin 1090 GPS casting to:

- Success - Samsung 43” TV, which is the overhead Rv in my coach.
- Fail - Apple iPad
- Fail - Android tablet (Samsung)
- Fail - 3 different Samsung smart TVs in my home.
- Fail - Chromecast plug in device (latest generation)

By “Fail” I mean that the display device does NOT show up on the Garmin Device while on the cast screen. Even though my 3 Samsung TVs at home do not show up in the cast list, my neighbors Samsung TV does show up. Weird!

Also, since the documentation states it works with Chromecast, I’ve spent a lot of time working with the regular Chromecast device. Could not get it to work and the Chromecast setup process and management is very cumbersome and difficult to work with.

So in summary, the casting signal in the Garmin seems to be very particular as to what it works with but at least it works with the overhead TV in my coach. Keep in mind that I have to pull the F23 fuse (Awn Loxkout) so that the TV will stay on while driving.

Edit: I meant the F25 fuse

It’s just the opposite. The Garmin needs to see the TV in order to cast to it. Not sure if your Sony is compatible but follow the steps above to test.

BTW for those interested, I’m also in the process of adding a 8” display to the passenger seat which will have the camera cast to it. The idea is to provide the wife GPS navigation on the overhead TV and the camera view on the small seat display., The lack of camera and navigation view for the passenger is a big complaint of hers. Happy wife, happy life!

Stay tuned for more details as I work through this

A quick little update for those wanting to wirelessly cast your Garmin RV GPS to a TV or to any other display device., I’ve been experimenting with different devices and such and found this little HDMI Display Dongle Adapter on Amazon. This little adapter is great. You simply plug it into the HDMI (or RCA video AV input) port. The Garmin GPS will easily cast its screen to this device. It’s plug and play with absolutely no configuration or app download. There is one button on it to toggle between Apple iOS casting mode and Android casting mode. The Garmin GPS is Android.

Just another option to cast your GPS directions to any display TV or passenger buddy screen.

fat pelican ( and all the rest of you while you're up in behind the TV...) - while working on wiring up behind the TV on my 2021 Bay Star, I discovered that a lot of the the wiring and cables that run from passenger side to drivers side above/over the dash and behind the TV actually lay on a fiberglass panel, with no noise-abatement - every bump caused the bundles to slap against the panel - - I laid a thick layer of fiberglass insulation under the wires and it significantly reduces the banging and rattling (you could also wrap it in foam pipe insulation)

It appears to not be mentioned in the Garmin RV1090 users manual, except for definition of the word "Cast" in the terms. I suspect this is because the lawyers at Garmin don't want to encourage RV'ers to have their TVs on while driving.

I played with my RV1090 and Samsung 7 series smart TV and was able to get it working.

1) I first paired the RV1090 to the TV via bluetooth. The RV1090 recognized the TV but the TV never acknowledged the RV1090 device exists. This appears not to matter. If the RV1090 moves the TV to its "connected" list, that appears to be adequate. (nothing mentions what wireless channel is used, but I turned off the coach WiFi and this still worked so it is using the Bluetooth link.)

2) Drill down this menu path on the RV1090:
- Settings/Device/Sound and Notification/Cast
It should show your TV (the bluetooth name), with "wireless display", select it.
A message will show on the RV1090 it is connecting, and a message will show on the TV that an android device is connecting. On the TV, I think I had to select "allow" on a message about the cast-maybe that was only the first time, not sure.

After a few seconds, the TV should now display audio and video of the RV1090.

I thought I might need to select or enable something from the TV side. But other than enabling Bluetooth on it, I dont think I have to change any settings on the TV. Strangely, the 1090 is NOT listed as a bluetooth device in the "device list" of the TV.

As the poster above said, If you want to have the TV work while driving, you will have to disable its power control relay somehow, or simply plug into another always-powered outlet if one is nearby.

EDIT UPDATE:
I went thru a few cycles of enabling and disabling the remote display, turned the TV off and on. Then tried to turn on cast again. AND I CANNOT GET IT TO WORK. Under the list of cast devices, the TV name is greyed out, and says "Unavailable" instead of "Wireless Display." Not sure what is up or what I changed. Will report back if I figure it out.

Today I completed the task of adding a passenger screen to my Ventana. As discussed above, I have cast the Garmin GPS to the overhead TV for passenger view of navigation and connected a wireless transmitter to the camera RCA plug behind the head unit. I then mounted an 8” display of the door grab handle and connected the receiver to it. All in all, works fairly well. Not completely happy with my wire management so will most likely redo that.

BTW: for those of you with the Garmin RV GPS, they make another mount (sold separately) that allows you to plug in a camera. The head unit screen on the Ventana is miserably small and useless to me so while I was behind the head unit I also ran another camera wire to the Garmin. I bought and installed the new mount so now I have a driver view of the 360 view camera on the larger Garmin 10” screen.

Would you please provide a link for the hardware you used to mount the buddy monitor?

Thank you!

Sure! The pole mount holds any display that includes VESA mounting holes. Also,,the grab handle on the coach is a tad too narrow for the mount so I used adhesive backed rubber strip to toghten it down.
