Adding MIC for Bluetooth Phone Connection

When we got our 2015 Dutch Star I connected my phone to the Kenwood system so I could use hands free while driving. Turns out I could hear the incoming connection great over the speakers but they couldn't hear me. Looked all over for the mic and couldn't find one... because it didn't have one connected, at least not on my coach. I purchased one from Amazon for $9 and mounted it on the top of the steering wheel shroud. Works great! So if your's didn't come with a MIC it's easy to install one. I removed my lower draw completely and reached my hand and arm with the mic plug and pushed it into place. The attached PDF shows the location of the mic input better then the attached picture.

Did you install the Kenwood, or did the coach come with it? I dumped the OEM radio and installed a new Kenwood, the mic was included. Like yours, I find the mic works very well with the radio.

Hello Don

My coach came with the Kenwood DNX571TR unit but didn't have the mic. Did your previous 2014 Dutch Star come with a mic as well?

My 2014 Clarion had a mic built in, so did the Xite that came with the 2019 DS. It looks like the Kenwood needs an attached mic to work. When I installed the Kenwood in my 2019 DS, I was able to notch the upper left corner of the faceplate and stick the mic in that upper left corner, 2 sided taped to the dash. It seems to pick up well from there.
