After one year: A Happy Camper

My 2012 4346 Dutch Star DP is awesome. With regards to IRV2 and the people on this forum you are awesome as well. I have learned so much from this forum and feel a commonality that is beyond words. In four years or less, I will look to execute my version of full timing with my RV. Meaning: will stay on the road as long as time, money and opportunity permits.

I’m amazed daily at how many technologies are a part of our RVs. How anyone can synchronize so many different manufactures into one usable RV, which for the most part operates within reason, is beyond me.

Have read many Ops on the new/used RV discussions, maybe even rubs for all I know, but for me, I do not care. I have a used RV and I love it. I feel Newmar is there for me, not to forget Freightliner and Cummins. I have now used all three customer supports and feel very good about their support.

I’ve worked with two Newmar dealerships now, I will only say I wish Newmar Corporation would rub off on them more as far as customer service, Dealerships you are part of the Newmar family and sorry I did not purchase my RV from you to be treated like your family.

Most RV’ers on the road are awesome so far. Cannot wait to be able to be on the road more often. Recently on TV, with regards to an RV show on CAC, the same RV show stated that there are some 17,000 campgrounds across America. I sure look forward to getting too many of them.

Advice to new RV’ers, buy what you can afford, but love your floor plan and space is a must in my opinion. Gas versus Diesel is not an argument but a choice, again get what is best for you. Do it yourself people have an advantage in my mind, due to the fact you get to know your RV better.

Reason for OP, is I’m feeling great about entering into this hobby and wanted to put out a positive, hopefully upbeat update on my last year. If you’re new to RV’ing like me, you have a lot to look forward to. The only dumb question is the one you are afraid to ask!!!

Hobby? It's more like a lifestyle. It's still amazing to me how fast time has gone by. We've been fulltiming 5yrs. now, and it only seems like yesterday we hit the road. When talking about the places we've been, I'm always surprised when I remember one that I had forgotten about. And I'll ask my DW, "Are you sure we've been there?" It's a great adventure you've got to look forward to.

Congratulations on your 1 yr. anniversary Terry & Kathy, good to hear the good results even with some dealer not fully in the family.
Here is a thread on that subject there are some that are full family dealers and some that are working at it, maybe you can add some of the good ones in your travels for others.
I hope your second year has the same results many memories, all that some of us only have left now, and many miles of safe travels in your future.

Can only be a hobby now, due to availible of time; four years from now I will evolve into a lifestyle change.

Sidewinder, I enjoyed reading your post. I've only been a RV-er for about a year also, and I feel very much the same way you do about it. I enjoy it so much more than I ever even thought I would!

I'm 43 and my youngest child is still in 4th grade, so I have many years before I can hit the road for extended periods, but I enjoy reading of other peoples' adventures on these forums. And in the meantime, the RV has already helped create some really fantastic family togetherness and memories.

I think my wife and neighbors think I have gone a little off the deep end and have become a bit of an "RV nerd", but when I come on these forums, I feel right at home!!

Thanks to everyone on here for creating a great sense of community, and for sharing so much valuable information!

There is a lot of excitement about RV'ing. Met two couples this last weekend while camping, both stated that RV’ing has reduced stress from many years of hard work. Both couples had an issue with cancer, however it was neat to hear that both retirement and full time RV’ing put cancer where it needed to be, that is in remission.

Sounds like us, need to wait for the grandson to graduate from HS, then hit the road. He's 15 now and thinks he knows it all!
