try cleaning it with a shop vac - suck out any dust and it may resume normal operation. Or compressed air - even one of those canned air things for blowing dust out of a computer.

When I cook I can confirm it's a smoke detector.

Carbon monoxide detectors and propane detectors will chirp or make other noises when they reach their end of life, typically about 5 years. In a 2017 coach I'd be surprised if it's EOL but could have been old stock and made in 2015-16.

Take it down and do the 'net search for the model number. You'll have a more complete understanding of the features, life span and replacement options.

Co detectors are usually mounted down low on a wall. If your is on the ceiling i think it is most likely smoke only. Chirping with a new battery installed likely means the unit has failed- but they dont cost much to replace.

Damn, I thought that was only true when my wife cooks!

Attached is the datasheet for the one used in my 2017 Ventana. Probably the same across all Newmar lines.

Ionization smoke detectors use a radioactive element sandwiched between two thin layers of aluminum foil. You do NOT want to subject it to compressed air or a shop vac!

Maybe you installed a bad "new" battery. Just a cheap easy idea that might work.
