Just spent a week at Fishermen's Memorial (RI). The weather was gorgeous.
Since this was the 1st trip for the season, I noticed some rippling of the vinyl ceiling material around and in front of the (Signal Commander 400LS) antenna crank assembly. A small area of the paneling material also appeared to be a bit soft.
Anyway, upon arriving home I pulled the interior crank/baseplate assembly off. The 4 wood screws were rusted and there was some water stain on the up side of the plastic base plate.
I stuck my finger up into the ceiling void and of course found the insulation to be damp. I pushed the insulation away from the bottom side of the roof plate for inspection. I could not see any water stain around the the roof cutout nor was any delam visible. I suspect the shaft o-ring(s) failed and the water ran down the shaft.
I plan to pull the shaft assembly apart from up above and replace the 0-rings hoping that will solve the immediate problem. (I also plan to re-caulk and Eternabond tape the entire rig's roof structure)
As far as the ceiling panel goes, I'm not sure there is much I can do short of replacing it which would constitute a major job since the front bedroom overhead cabinets are mounted over that particular sheet. At this point, I merely hope the damp section will dry on its' own. OK, I'm done venting.
