I am considering the Allstar with Mid engine but a local diesel machanic thought it might be a problem to have to access the engine at times from inside the coach. Is that an issue?

No, actually its a big advantage over a DP. We had two problems when engine was new(fuel leak and a coolant leak), both mechanics remarked that they had "never seen such easy engine access". In fact, the access was so open we were able to diagnos the problems and put a temporary fix on before going to the Cummins service centers. The engine could be rebuilt with the overhead access. And no, there is NO noise from the engine thru the access hatch!

The daily maintenance/check outside access is also easy!

If you test drive a ME you may never want to drive anything esle!

I agree with Dave. I have considered the AllStar since it was introduced. I have test driven an Allstar and had the engine hatch open. The engine access is much better on the AllStar than my KSDP. Engine access should not be on your list of concerns.

I ou the allstar loft model and LOVE the mid engine. It drives better IMHO. I also have some engine issues early on (a recall was out there) and the mechanic said it was easier to work on that the DP. Do not be afraid of the ATME. It is a good coach.
