At least Newmar is consistent

My upholstery is peeling like many others have posted. Now yesterday, I was up waxing the roof and now my clear coat on the roof radius is peeling too!
The coach is stored indoors when not in use, it's washed after every use and a high quality wax is applied at least twice a year.
Junk paint just like the upholstery.

Actually, I think Newmar uses BSAF paint which is very good stuff. I think the sun of FLA has taken the worse of it. And certainly that is not connected with the fabric. Newmar specifies the vendor but doesn't manufacture the seats. Costs / features / longevity balance of choices.

I noticed on my couch that the worst spots are where the sun can dry up the upholstery. So that might be a common element.

We have owned Newmar's for 23 years and our 04 Essex for 14, all outside, and by using 303 clear coat and the coach exterior looked great. Newmar paint has been excellent and would suggest using 303 twice a year which takes about 2 hours and cost about 20$ in 303.

When newmar replaced my windshield in sep. 2019, the top 1/4 clear coat Peeled off. I was thankful it happened at the factory, as they took it to the paint shop and fixed it properly...under warranty.

Hi PanJH,
The radiuses have been a problem for many years. Had mine repainted (Newmar) around 2010. In 2015 had to have the sides replaced (Newmar). They replaced the radiuses also. Must be they started using a different material or they figured out how to paint them. Here we are 5 years later and they look great. My maintenance has not changed.

"PanJH".....On my 2014 DS, the furniture held up well and I found the driver's seat to be more comfortable for a big guy than my 2019 DS. On the 2014, the last six feet on the driver's side radius both cracked and the clear coat blistered. It was all black. Newmar offered to repair it if I drove back during the winter. Instead, I had the entire radius and front and rear caps repainted white (same white as in my scheme) just above the drip rail. I knew it wouldn't be long before the rest of the radius would blister. Unfortunately, my 2014 was parked out in the sun all year.

I did the same painting of my 2005 Diplomat when the radius and caps went bad. The 2014 DS repair cost me $5K and Newmar picked up $1500. You can see in the photo below how I changed the roof line to white. On my Diplomat, I changed it to tan, matching my color scheme. On my 2019 DS, I purposely changed the colors so the roof line was all light colors hoping to slow or stop the blistering.

Tom Chelbana…..I don't think it's fair to compare the paint job on a Essex or London Aire to that of a Dutch Star, especially the older ones. The Essex and London Aire get more coats of paint and more clear. The furniture is also upgraded with a higher quality material. I said many times when I had my 2014 DS that I wouldn't buy another DS until they improved the paint work. I think somewhere in 2017 or 2018 they dropped the Masterpiece paint job down to the Dutch Star level. I know prior to that, many asked as "specials" to have more clear added and Newmar refused.

The upholstery has nothing to do with Newmar. They are an outside source. Your Florida sun doesn't help.

We used 303 protectant on our 2004 and 8 yr. later when we sold it still looked new. We traveled full-time in it. 303 also protects all rubber around the slides, windows, tires, etc.

Our fiberglass roof never gave us problems with white streaks. We kept it clean and polished.

Our Diamond Shield on the front also was perfect after 8 yr. - no dirt, cracking or mold. Those with problems typically are in Florida or other southern humid areas.

We have an appointment at the factory in June to have our roof edges clear coated. Fixed price of $1500.

The fabric use in the furniture is indeed specified by Newmar. I was on a conference call with Newmar mgmt and Flexsteel mgmt and they stated that is the case. Now, regarding the radius peeling, I have had several other coaches over the years and all subjected to Florida weather. All of those were stored outside and none had an issue. The dutch star has been stored inside since new. Back in the day, I used to paint my custom cars and bikes, so, I'll be refinishing the radius' myself ...... just a pain to have to do it. Oh, one of our pickup trucks is 13 years old, never been in a garage and the factory paint looks like new.

I can confirm this. When the 1 yr old sofa's and captain's chairs starting coming apart and the foam collapsed on our new 2010 Bay Star (with only part time use), it was confirmed that the materials used were specified by Newmar. Fortunately, Flexsteel took care of my issue by redoing all of it and using upgraded foam and all new covering with higher grade materials and I never had an issue again for the remaining seven years we had the Baystar.

Tom,

Are you saying you use 303 on the radius's, roof, paint, etc? I like 303 and was thinking about trying it on the radius.

Yes, using 303 on the complete exterior of our 2 LA's and Essex protected the exterior completely. I most say we haven't used on the windows but have heard it is as good as Rain-X and next time we 303 will try it on them too. So easy to use and such good long protection it's our choice for our London Aire. Clear coat damage here in the southwest is a real problem and 303 gives you great paint protection.

Tom, I've used 303 all over the rear of my 2015 DS which sets in our back yard with rear facing south, toward the sun. It's easy to spray on but takes a lot of elbow grease to get it wiped off so as not to streak, especially on the black finish.
Do you have any particular way of doing it to be able to do a 45' coach in 2 hrs?

Thanks Tom! When it warms up I plan to do just that.
