Automatic steps

During a recent trip, our auto steps just stopped functioning. They came out almost all the way and then move freely. It’s like the motor wants to work but is now not connected. Is there a linkage or shaft I can check? A quick glance on the road did not reveal anything. I had to strap the steps up to get home.

Had this happen to me. If it sounds like the motor is working or rattling when the door is opened/closed but the steps don't move in/out, then it is probable that the plastic gears inside the motor have stripped.

It is a frequent problem due to lack of lubrication of the hinge points and/or placing too much weight on the steps before they are fully deployed (you step on the steps before they are all the way out and locked). It's a simple replacement, takes about 15 minutes to put in a new motor. You can get replacements online at Amazon for under $100. Just need the model number for your existing motor.

Your gear assembly is stripped or the linkage has broken. Contact any NIRVC service department for assistance with parts or service for your repair.

Can you or a helper get under the coach, SAFELY, OUT OF THE WAY, and look for a broken link or something....and then, SAFELY....run the steps to see what is amiss ?

Forgot to mention.....whilst under coach, bring a pencil, paper and flashlight and note all the markings on the underside of the steps. Save for later.
