Back up camera distances are off

Today, we measured the distance of objects using the back up camera versus a tape. Wow the read outs on the screen of back up camera are way off when in reverse. 1 ft is like 3 feet. Is there a way to adjust them to the proper length?

My thought is that the distances displayed are off intentionally to give a safety factor....
As far as I know the only way to adjust them is between the operators ears.

Distance grids are notoriously inaccurate and most aren’t adjustable. Slight differences in mounting angles of the camera can and do have a big effect on where the distance grid lines show up. Best to do like you did, measure and take notes for future reference.

The grids are adjustable on my monitors. The distance will still vary based on the terrain.

We went to RV driving school at Lazy Days. One of the things we were told to do is measure 3 feet from the back of the RV and place something (like fire extinguisher) on the ground. Than put on the screen athin sticky tape across the screen.
That is my safety zone when backing up. I went to a sign shop and they cut me a thin piece of adhesive vinyl tape for free

Just a thought ... perhaps the grid is in meters (or yards), not feet.
