Bathroom Skylight

The skylight over the shower needs replacing. It got stepped on and is cracked and broken. I duct taped it back together, still had leaks. Today I applied Flex Seal and I must say it looks pretty. good

I am in Colorado near a Transwest service center, however my appointment is not for two more weeks. We have been having a lot of rain and hail and would like to see if this is something I can do, or is it better left to professionals?

Has anyone ever done this themselves?

I have ordered and received the part and sealer from Newmar.

My coach is a 2015 Ventana 4002.

Thank you in advance for any help.

We had ours taken apart and resealed (old parts) back in January. It had been leaking and we were replacing headliner when our service center found the leak. I took a good look when they had it apart and I'd have been very comfortable doing that part of the work myself. In our case it's just some fasteners and sealant.

If it were me I'd give it a go at home or on the road.

Good luck!

I have no idea on your abilities, but it is not a complicated job. Use a hair dryer or heat gun on low to soften caulk and a plastic bladed scraper to remove softened caulk. Remove the old skylight and clean the surface using acetone.

I just did this recently. Clean and remove any adhesive from the old skylight mount. Get some butyl putty tape. It is about 3/4 of an inch wide. Available on Amazon. Put it in the freezer before you attempt to apply it. Makes the application much easier. Apply the tape to the underside of the skylight such that it will cover any existing holes in the roof. Screw the new skylight on the roof. Apply a bead of dicor to the edge of the skylight and all screw heads. Finally use some eternabond tape to seal the edges of the skylight.

I just had an RV service place replace my cracked one. I could have done it myself, but after looking at the beautiful job they did, I'm glad I didn't do it myself.

There's a world of difference between my Dicor sealing and a good professional's job.

If you do it yourself, use a heat gun to soften the old Dicor and a putty knife to remove it.

Dicor isn't too hard to apply. Just remember it spreads and self levels.

Mine was broke when I got he MH. There was an almost perfect circle that broke off that I had duct tape holding it up. Local RV repair place ordered replacement and installed it now it looks great again.
