Battery Caps

Does anyone have experience with "water miser" battery caps? They are supposed to reduce water evaporation and the green/blue salts on the positive terminals.

Yes and they work as advertised. I installed these back in February and I have not had to add any water and my battery compartment stays much cleaner!....

Hi Greg. Have you considered a much cheaper rout with mineral oil? Mineral oil is a old maintenance trick used by Edison way back when and is still a great choice today. The oil floats on the electrolyte in each cell and keeps the caustic gasses in check. Those of us who use this method swear by it. Evaporation is greatly reduced and so is the 'normally' found white power on the terminals and connections.

It costs about $2 for a pint at the pharmacy. It is with the laxatives (). A oz or so is added to each cell AFTER the water is topped off.

This method WILL NOT harm your batteries in any way.

This is exactly what I have experienced. I think that the product is excellent.

I did battery caps years ago, but would recommend skipping then and going with the FlowRite automatic battery watering system. It's pricey, about $160.00, but it will seal your system, cut back on water and make servicing your batteries a 5 minute job.

The automatic watering system is one of the BEST products you can buy for an RV.

The PO of our coach installed the water misers. They looked nice, but as the batteries aged they did not control the corrosion nor water loss. When we replaced the batteries, we installed a watering system. I don't recall the cost, something that happens when we are very happy with the purchase. Over time the initial cost is irrelevant. We have four batteries and filling them is as DutchStar Don says, just a 5 minute job.

Would I be wrong in saying that I would need to remove the system in October and reinstall in April as I live in Michigan. In other words, will the system freeze in sub-freezing temps we have for a 6 months?

Mine have been installed for 10 years and were on the batteries last winter in zero degree conditions. We are full timers and were living in the coach at the time.

I installed the "water miser" battery caps this past fall, not enough time for evaluation but the reviews I read were all positive.
