Battery Charging

A newby question as we received no explanation of the workings of our MH. We have a 2007 County Star and I was under the impression that while connected to shore power (house 15amp) that the batteries would charge?

I connected the MH overnight and no change to the battery condition on the monitor panel.

Are your batteries dead? If they are, you might need to put a charger on them to get them started.

As mentioned batteries already dead to the world? Is there a battery disconnect switch that is turned on? Batteries won't be charged is switch is active. But yes when connected to shore power your house and in some cases the chassis batteries should charge, but it takes a long time from dead.

Which batteries? House batteries are almost always charged when connected to shore power. To charge the chassis batteries requires an additional device that not all MH models have as a standard install.
If it is you house batteries you need to check your converter (probably combined with the inverter). Check the reset button and fuses.

That's considered fairly dead. If they are old, may be time for new ones.

Newmar charges both sets of batteries on all models.

House batteries. I believe they are not that old and they look fine. I thinking maybe the monitor panel or something else could be the problem?

Grab your voltmeter, (must have item) and begin by checking 120V input and 12V output at the converter. That is where it all begins. Once you have confirmed voltage here, carry on through the rest of the system.
Let us know what you find there and we can walk you through the rest.

In case you don't have the manual, here is a link for the 9200.

That's a good 3 stage charger, that also desulficates the batteries on it's own.
My guess is the batteries charge is too low for the charger to work.

Hi AussieRv,
There are two sets of batteries.
Coach Batteries = for the house
Chassis Batteries = for the engine

Your coach will charge both sets of batteries. This is done via the BIRD System. The BIRD System will connect or disconnect the batteries from each other under certain circumstances. The attached file provide a description of the BIRD. The BIRD is located in the basement bay that has the shore power cord. Look on the back wall. The BIRD is behind a black wall that is Velcroed in place.
