Battery Charging Question

I just bought a new 2015 Dutch Star and have a question about battery charging.

When plugged into shore power, are BOTH house and chassis batteries being charged? On my former SOB coach only the house batteries were charged and something like a Trik-L-Charge or Amp-L-Charge was needed to charge both.

I'm getting conflicting information about the Newmar models so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

As a RV owner, you should own a Digital volt meter.
Even if another Dutch Star owner says that the batteries are getting charged, yours may not because of a problem or something someone else did.

The sure fire way is to measure the terminal voltage at the batteries.
They should be 13.8 or higher during charge/float.

Does your Systems test panel which shows coach battery voltage also show chassis battery voltage....another way to confirm.

Inverters only charge the house batteries, so the coach builder would have to add a separate battery minder for the chassis batteries. Or have a circuit to which activates the boost/charge solenoid.

Regards,

Dan

You have a Battery Isolation Manager (BIM) which allows both house and chassis batteries to be chargef from either the alternator or the inverter/charger when plugged in. Do a search on this forum for BIM and you will find out more than you need to know about it.

Simple answer, yes, when plugged into shorepower your Dutch Star is designed to charge both house and chassis batteries.
