Battery Disconnect - Does not work
I am on vacation, without my motor home, which has been in service for the past 60 days. The day before we left, I picked up the coach from the service department and put it in the garage, and checked everything, which appeared to be working normally, and left town.
That was Sunday. Today I got a call from my neighbor, who has been caring for the house while we are gone. He told me that the RV garage was very "smokey" as if the RV had been running. He said that he noticed it yesterday, and aired it all out, but again today same thing.
After walking him through a few diagnostics, we determined that the 50a service is not working. My progressive display is blank, but there is power on the cord light.
Not wanting to dig any further, I had him disable the AGS (should have done that before...I know), and then hit the battery disconnect.
This is where I have lost control of the situation: the battery disconnect fires a relay ( he heard it ) but doesn't disconnect. Nothing turned off in the coach, and the inverter still was running. I had him disable the inverter, and that turned off the Refer, and the tv, but not the 12v. He held it for a bit, but nothing. The chassis battery was reading 12.7, and the house 12.3v
This confuses me greatly. I am assuming that maybe a fuse is preventing the operation of the battery disconnect?
I had him disconnect all the ground connections ( found 3 to the house ) and disable the chassis battery by rotating the red knob. This will save my batteries at least until I get home this weekend.
If anyone has an idea of why the battery disconnect did not work, I would appreciate the information. Of course there is always room for "user error", as my neighbor is not an RV person, but I was fairly sure that this button, which is a momentary switch, could not be pressed incorrectly.

redbaron73 ... I am assuming you are referring to switch and red light above the passenger seat.
I am not sure I know what is actually "turned off" by that switch. I have turned mine off before and there were still things on in the coach that I thought would be off. Maybe it is really working and only kills some of the circuits??
It sounds like you have taken the necessary precautions until you can get home.
Will be interested in what you determine to be the issue. Was the smoke caused by the generator starting and running??

The smoke was the generator. I pulled the security audio and found it running for about 3 hours, which is what I would expect.
Usually when the battery disconnect is tripped the inverter will turn off and most lights. In this case the red light never went out, but the audible clunk was heard.
I agree that it should be safe for now. Had him move my freezer items to the house and leave refrig open.
I am thinking that we got a power surge and the progressive saved me. Nothing in the display and the bypass doesn't work, so there is something going on there. I will call next week once I have checked the voltages.

On my 07 KSDP, when in winter storage I would stop and turn that switch on to check batteries. If they low, that switch would not turn off till the batteries were recharged.

That does make sense. I wonder if 12.3 is too low?

I had this happen two yrs ago where the shutoff wouldn't work. The solution was to disconnect the pos. side of the inverter for 60 secs. When hooked back up everything was ok. I have a Xantrex inverter and luckily tthere is a dealer/service very near me. They had me do this.

As for the original question about the battery disconnect not working, I think this is a case of user error on my neighbors part.
This morning I reconnected the batteries, went inside, and pressed "DOWN" on the disconnect momentary switch. It turned off like I expected. I am guessing that my neighbor pressed "UP" on this switch.
As for the rest of the issues, I posted the information here: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/feb-...ml#post1940163
