Hi Everyone,

My question is if I turn off the battery disconnect switch and plug into 50 amp hook up will my batteries charge?

Thanks

Most likely yes. Shore power is directly connected to the inverter/ charger... which is directly connected to the batteries. Assume you are talking house batteries,

I was told that you need to leave the battery cut off switch on to charge.

Converter/charger, NO charge with switch off.

Inverter/charger, YES charge thru directly connected inverter/charger cables.
If the inverter works with the disconnect off or disconnected, then so will charging.

No your batteries will NOT charge. But they will not discharge as fast either due to not having any load on them. If yo want to charge you batteries while in storage either install a trickle charger directly to them, leave the Chassis cut off switch on or install solar panels and leave the MH outside to soak up the rays. Even with all of this it does not matter if you don't perform basic maintenance on the batteries such as check the water level and top it off at a minimum of yearly. I know, been there forgot to do that.

Simple test

Why don't you let the batteries come down a few tenths, shut off your battery switch, plug in and see what happens?

The only real answer is "maybe yes, maybe no". There is no standard installation method and it just depends on how your coach was wired. I've seen same brand, model, year coaches wired differently.
