Battery isolater

just returned from a trip and had two issues. First problem, we dry camped for three days and when we were ready to leave the chassis batteries were to low to start the coach. The second time dry camping for same period of time I turned the switch to the chassis batteries off, same result. Also sometimes when driving the low alternator warning comes on with 12.4 to 12.5 reading especially while under load, then settles in at 12.8 to 13.1. This seems to be totally random and will return to normal . 2001 DSDP with cat 3126.

With "random" changes in voltage, first check is all connections:

At batteries.

Chassis ground.

Back of alternator.

2001 DS with Cat . I'll assume Freightliner chassis and the OEM Leece-Neville 160 amp alternator .

Have you had the chassis batteries load tested ??
I just had my L/N bearings replaced and during the bench testing the shop noticed the regulator was defective ( not allowing full output. )

So the alternator mounted regulator is a possibility .

I'll add to Brett's list of connections to check .
The charge wire from the alternator , does not run directly to the chassis batteries , it connects to the battery cable at the starter . So the connection there has to be clean and tight too .

I had a skid-steerer, had starting issues with it. Replace the cable from the battery to the starter and this fixed the problem. Cut the insulation off the old cable and the copper wires where corroded, green in color. Might need to replace some cables.
