Bay Star door-side slide out topper question
Just noticed that the kitchen slide out on the door side does not have a protective rollout topper over it. This is the only slide I have seen without one. The awning covers it when opened, but awnings cannot/should not be left out in all types of weather. Extending the awning just enough to cover the slide is a potential option, but creates a valley that looks problematic. Any BS owners encounter problems (leaks, leaf debris, etc) from having the slide top exposed?

Patti,my 3401 has toppers over both slides. However in the past I have had at least 3 RV's..one with 3 slides and NO toppers and never had an issue with rain or leaks occurring through the seals etc. However that's just me and I'm not saying that it can't happen nor is it advantageous to have toppers installed, but as far as the debris issue goes....oh yeah, that could cause a problem such as pine needles, bird stuff and anything and everything that falls from trees can accumulate on the slide roof. It's not always fun climbing up there and clearing it off every time you need to bring it in,especially in the pouring rain!!!!!

Hi Patti Brown,
Your situation is not unique to the BS model. Most Newmar coaches do not have a slide topper when the main awning is above the slide. The solution is to extend the main awning enough to cover the topper. The valley you see is not a problem water will just run off the front or rear, depending on how the coach is setting. Remember to retract the slide first. Then the awning. All debris, etc. will fall to the ground.

No topper
We have 2014 ds and no topper on ps. Count not understand why Newmar would do that, other then saving money on their end. Could never get a good answer from dealer or their Newmar rep. I do what Gary has said and have not had any problem. If I expect storm I pull awning all the way in and still have not had any problems. If I am in site that has a lot of trees ,I get on roof and clean out slide top before pulling it in. I do notice that the 2015 ds now have toppers on them !!

Yeah, I have kept the main awning out just enough to cover the slide, even in some pretty wicked weather. It hasn't been a problem. Also, it covers the entryway outside the door, which is handy in bad weather too.

I am looking to buy a Baystar sport 3004 and was looking on line. A found a dealer in VA who has one and they ordered it with no slide toppers at all. They are an option. I suspect that the base systems are designed to handle normal weather conditions without the need for toppers and that the toppers provide a level of convenience and additional protection.

Slide toppers also keep the heat down in the cabinets that are next to the ceiling.

Our '02 DSDP was the same way, no awning over the passenger side slide. There really wasn't room due to the clearance though. Never any problem with it either.
Awnings are options on most rigs, even our Magna has them listed as options.
