Better discount on an ordered Newmar?

Generally,do Newmar dealers give better discounts if you order a coach than a on a model on their lot? Is a discount in the 25% to 30% range attainable?

All of Newmar dealers purchase the unit they have on the lot. This means in-stock inventory has a financing burden on its cost in addition to the acquisition and transportation costs. Add to that the real estate and other costs such as electricity, washing, etc. and you can see why it is cheaper to order a unit vs in stock.

When I was purchasing, North trail would only offer 20% discount on the dsdp they had on the lot, but 27% if I ordered.

In addition to what I stated above, the dealer also needs inventory. If the motor home is the only one of that floor plan, and its popular, they will not discount so easily until a replacement stock is in route.

Of course after model year change, the inverse is true, and deeper discounts will be made on the in stock motor homes, usually starting at 30% and increasing as time goes on.

I would think if you order you should get the maximum discount. Also you can order want options you want. So let's say the dealers rig has heated floors and that is not an option that is a must have for you, then save that amount and put towards a feature you would rather have.
A year ago we ordered for 29 1/2 percent under.
Good luck

Ya but you are the only person I know that can collect money on the wine tour bus and when we were done with the tours have enough left over to tip the driver.

When I order my next one I'm getting you to do the talking. I'll get you a quart of Moomers Icream as a tip.

Hope to see both of you someplace soon.

Hope to run into you on the road somewhere.

X2 I also got close to 30% on the entire deal including specials in May 2015 for a 2016 model.

Hi HUGHP,
There is a lot going on behind the scenes that a retail customer will never know. Once a coach is on the lot, in addition to the costs, the coach is subject to Newmar incentives given to the dealer to move the coach. Also, there are "spiffs" provided to sales people to move a coach. Ordering a coach is pretty straight forward from a $s point of view.

I see a lot of buyer's stating they got 29-30%. Seems to me most buyer's would have a trade. How would they know they got 29.5%?? (Never said anyone lied...)

When we traded our '02 DSDP in they either gave us $20,000 over book for it or took $20,000 off the price of the Magna. Either way all I cared about was the difference.

When we ordered the '02 DSDP we got about 27% off, although a trade of the '00 DSDP was involved so no real way to know.

It's all a "numbers" game!

I guess I'm in the camp of I don't really care what %off I get because I'll always have a trade. I don't have the patience to mess with trying to sell an RV myself.

Like Mr_D, all I care about is the difference for which I'm taking out the loan. In the 2 scenarios below, either way it comes down to out-of-pocket difference & they're both equal. At least as long as I buy in OH, that's what I pay sales tax on - not the purchase price of the RV.

Dealer 2 scenarios:
High price for trade/Little discount price for new RV
Low ball the trade/Higher discount price for new RV

Most of us want High price for our trade/High discounted price for new RV. That ain't going to happen, despite any incentives to the dealership or salespeople.

In our case.....we sold our 2012 Itasca 33c outright .....
Because the dealer low balled us on our trade....made about $18K by selling it ourselves.
By the way....it was perfect....first to see it bought it.
The dealer helped us by running the sale of our Itasca through his dealership.....wich saved us Illinois sales tax on the $75000 we received or about $4875..... Then 29.5 percent off msrp on our order for the new rig.
Every deal is different.
Lowest price is not always the "best" deal.

You mean like my deal? Got 120% of book (does it matter which book) on my trade and paid less than 70% of the list price(does it matter whose list). Just kidding.

With no trade you have a little better chance to get the deal of a life time but that is your eyes and no one else's.

You are the one writing the check so you need to be happy with the deal. And yes brand x may give a larger than life discount and some brands do not. Do you think Bentley gives the same discount percentage as Mercedes Benz. M-B may give you a better deal on a 500 than a C Class so it is always dependent on the brand and model with in the brand.

Will dealers not give you a purchase price and trade-in-price separately?

The plan I've been forming in my head when time to upgrade is...
  1. Negotiate deal on new coach
  2. Ask for a trade-in value that I could choose to take or not
  3. Shop the coach for a few months, with the trade-in as the price floor
  4. Take the trade-in value if I can't sell.

Would this not work?
