Unfortunately, I think our MH's get what they get. MOL
Are you driving in the sweet spot? For a lot of rigs I've heard people say it's around 62 mph.

On my 3rd Diesel Pusher. have gotten in the 5s and as good as 7. (with and without towing a vehicle).
They are big heavy vehicles. Good Mileage is not their strength. Or maybe I should say take what you get and enjoy the rest of the ride!

It takes about an hour of running for my Cummins 450 to warm up and then I am in the neighborhood of 7 to 7.3 mpg. (Highway only) I try to stay away from urban areas as much as possible because I drop down to the high 5s or low 6s for mpg then.
However, I went to Newmar last October from lower Alabama with a toad on Tow Dolley and averaged 9.3. Could of not been more pleased based upon posting I read from this site.
As a note: An OP person by the name of Dutch Star Don recommended a fuel additive for diesel that I now swear by: Opti-Lube XPD. I run about 2 gallons a year through system. I get it from: https://devine-diesels-store.myshopify.com/ [due to free shipping for two gallons and no tax]
Just know fuel additives and their use is a personal choice only for me.

On my 2011 ( EPA 07 particulate filter/muffler) DSDP 4020 with the ISL 400, I get about 8.2 mpg by pencil & paper, going ~62 mph with the toad. ( long time average). I have about 40k miles on the MH.

I get a solid 7.6mpg on my 450 ISM @63mph towing my CRV. (this is based on my onboard computer, I really need to do a stubby pencil method to verify it)

Its all about how and where you drive. Wind has a big influence too. I drive as much as possible with the cruise control. I average between 7.9 to 8.9 towing a CRV. I try to maintain 64 mph.

That's if all things are equal. Each rig is going to have it's best, average and worst. Unfortunately some rig's never get 8mpg.

Yup you will get what you get for mileage.
Our coach weighs 42k, with a "warmed up" 450 Cummapart..
The gearing is such that the Alison doesn't shift into the top overdrive gear until 65/67 mph.
Average mpg (with Scion "xB Toadster" @ 68mph runs from low of 6.5 to nearly 9 mpg depending on terrain and traffic.

Thanks for all the comments. There are variation factors for sure with terrain and wind. I really don't notice much difference whether pulling the tow dolly or not. However, I did find the 'sweet spot' on my 400 cummins engine. If I cut my speed down to about 60-62 mph the engine just shifts into 6th gear and then I do get an average of 7.9-8 mpg. If I kick it up to 70 mph then I go back to 6-6.5 mpg. So best to slow down and enjoy ride and just let the fast pace traffic pass me by!

I have found the best way to increase mileage is to only drive down hill with a tail wind.
