Bike rack for Jeep Wrangler Toad

We have a great Thule easyfold bike rack but would love to find a bike rack that can remain on the hitch and also allows the rear gate to open without bikes on it. We also need it to have 120# capacity due to ebikes

The Jeep tire is so low that we expect the rack needs to extend straight out from the hitch. We currently need to remove the rack from the Jeep to have useful access to the rear storage area of the Jeep while touring.

We have the Kuat NV 2.0 on our jeep. We can open the gate all the way when I tilt the rack down. Also, you can get an optional swing arm for it. Holds 120lbs.

Look at the Yakima onramp. Use it for e-bikes.

Oneup-USA.com has what you need. Heavy enough to support the weight, swings down and they also offer a swing away unit. I have one for my Wrangler although I changed to a folding ebike I can throw in the back of the Jeep. The carrier is also rated to be used on the back of a towed and not all brands are.

I have the Hollywood Bike rack made for ebikes. I wanted the One Up, but our bikes have fenders and the securing arms cannot go over the tires. The Hollywood rack uses the center hooks. I also had to use a 2" hitch drop to clear the tire, but it works just fine with complete rear access when rack is tilted down.

Check out 1upUSA.com

They have a rack to fit your needs.

Their racks pivot down without bikes and tailgate clears...or have an optional swing arm to clear the Hatch with bikes loaded.

Quality stuff!

After a little more research, I think I am going to get this Pivot arm. Several reviewers with Wranglers have found this to work:

Thule 9037 Access Swing-Out Rack Carrier

Another vote for Hollywood. I have the “RV Rider” built specifically for RVs and Toads. It should tilt enough to lower your tailgate. I have it on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500.

Rack

I have the Rocky Mounts e bike rack, handles our two Trek e bikes great. It's on my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Folds back As well as swings out. Very solid, heavy too. And expensive. But I think it is worth it.

These bikes can be really expensive. I have a cable lock and cover (while traveling) for mine but just curious if anyone has had yours stolen or noticed that someone tried to take them

For a cover, i like these.

http://www.skinzprotectivegear.com/b...ortcovers.html

As far as locks, i can cut through most cable locks in about 5 seconds with simple nippers. Suggest you go the hardware store and buy a few feet of the thickest chain they have and get a strong pad lock. Buy one or two bicycle inner tubes, cut them and slide the chain inside. Your bikes are now safe.

I would look at the Thule EasyFold XT 2 hitch mount bike rack. It can handle the weight of 2 electric bikes and swings down for hatch access even with bikes on them. I have friends who full time with a Jeep towed and swear by them.
