As I found out, from some knowledgable people on this site, My coach is equiped with a BIRD which allows my house and Chassis batteries to charge from shorepower or Gen.
Do the House and Chassis batteries also charge from the engine alternator????
Thanks Rick

I can't say for sure "ALL" newmars, but I know mine does, and it was not top of the line when I bought. Now, I know I have "seen" it, but I can't say for sure I'm remembering correctly, but I think it is in the firewall mounted box with the clear plexiglas cover on my gasser. I'm getting the MH out of it's garage tmorrow to load for out trip to Tampa, so I'll post a correction then, if I find the relay elsewhere. ED

I don't believe they exist. I think the RV techie types made it up to laugh at us not so techies.
All these elaborate threads are nothing but an elaborate ruse. RVDude is the mastermind of it all.

Open the cargo bay door where the power cable goes into the motorhome. In that area you will find a removable cover with wiring, relays and fuses under the cover. That is where the BIRD is located.

Norm: With all due respect, you may be correct for Newmar's DPs, but I'm positive the BiDi Relay being discussed here is NOT in the cargo bay you described on the gassers. ED

My experience in working on units that have them is that it is all ways kept close to the battery control unit and batteries for wiring ampacity reasons. Therefore, look around wherever batteries are located.

What ecker has posted makes sense to me. I have just verified the location of the bird on my GASSER, in which the engine battery is in front. The bird is located inside the electrical box with the clear plexiglas cover on the firewall, driver's side. Looking from the front, the bird is in the upper left hand corner, imediately above a solinoid-looking component. -- ROGER (007)--- If you don't find yours there please let me know, since we have identical coaches.
I'm guessing the DPs will have a similar electrical box near their engine batteries as well.
FWIW, on mine, the coach house batteries are located pretty far away, aft of the passenger side rear wheels and immediately forward of the genset.
Good luck finding yours! ED
